Picked up new stang!

Just picked up my black 2012 GT from the dealer yesterday and I have to say that it was definitely worth the wait. I'm taking it easy for the break-in, but I can definitely feel the power on tap. I have a few questions though. When I got home, I noticed that my engine bay doesn't have the strut tower brace. Was that a factory option? I thought it came standard. I might have to go to the dealer to have them install it.
Also, this is my first manual car and although it was a bit rocky at first, I'm driving around pretty easily now. My only problem right now is steep hills which I can't avoid on the way to work. I'm currently using the hand brake to hold me still while I engage first gear. Do you all have any suggestions for starting up a hill? Or should I just keep doing this until I get more experience with the car?
Thanks in advance for the help! And don't worry, I will post pictures tonight when I get home.

Congrats on the new stang!! I just got my 11 like 2 months ago I love it!! Is this your first manual? Or first car?? Well as far as starting on hills u would have to use the hand just to be on the safe side until u get used to the clutch. U won't have to do it anymore once u get used to it, it's all a matter of getting used to it. As far as the strut brace, it comes with the GT premium, not the base GT.

Re: Picked up new stang!

congrats, I recommend buying and installing the strut bar yourself. Get your feet wet doing easy mods and its fun. Very easy I am sure to install as well.

Those cars are fun, they lack a little down low tq but the motors are very smooth.

When you are on a hill use the E-Brake to hold while you apply power in first so you dont slide back, great trick works fine. You will get the handle of it in no time. My first manual back in 01 I purchased not really knowing how to drive it and I figured it out in no time.

Thanks for the help! I have the GT premium, so it looks like I'm going to have to call the dealership to get the brace. I agree, I think I'd rather just do the install myself. I'm definitely going to mod it eventually, and I've always preferred DIY projects. This is my first manual, so I learned a lot the first day driving it. Aside from hills, I think I'm used to driving it now.

The strut bar might be standard on convertibles only...I'm guessing yours is a coupe? If so, you really won't need the strut bar.

Hmm, my 2011 had the strut brace. Maybe it came with the 3.73 performance package.

Re: Picked up new stang!

Not all premiums have the strut tower brace.I have the premium with everything including heated seats and.......no strut tower brace. It might be a brembo deal.

Re: Picked up new stang!

Thanks guys!

DDTCM, thanks for the info. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Nightmare, I don't know what I was thinking. I was so excited I just checked the window sticker to make sure my options were there and took it home haha.

Here are some quick pictures of my stang. I'll take better pictures once the weather gets better. So far it's only my second day driving it, and I'm getting more and more excited as I get used to it.

The 2011 GT 5.0 have 290 lb-ft at 2,500 rpm, which seems plenty strong to me.. I believe the 2012 have the same numbers..

Easy, had to take mine off to remove engine cover. Now she is barless because she is charged. Anyone need one just message me. It's just sitting in the garage. Two bolts is all, torque to 28

Re: Picked up new stang!

Beav, nice car btw! When I was looking for my car one of the dealers had a 2010 427R that they were practically trying to give to me for $10K under sticker. I had to pass it up for the 5.0 though. Nice lookin cars though

Re: Picked up new stang!

The GT premiums don't come with the brace. Maybe the 11's did but not the 12's aftermarket and softops it what I was told.

Thanks again for the info everyone. I was worried that the factory forgot to put the brace on, but now I'm glad to know that's not the case.

My 2011 GT premium came with it and it isn't the brembo package... Only things it came with was the accessory package 4 with the hood scoop, rear pedestal wing and HIDs. I think the 12s don't really get them unless u order it.... That's my assumption

very true, not that bad at all, I guess I am just used to more low end power but compared to the market they are no doubt great down low.
