The boss has a different PCM. And people testing them have said they have taken them to 8000 rpms where ours can only go to 7800 cause of the hard code in ours.

With the internals it funny everyone says it has forged internals but you. WHere your proof it don't? Your pic didn't show up. says unregistered domain for me. Most likely our haji internet.

The only people that are saying it's forged are the people that don't know. Proof is in the pic my friend.

"now I hope bone of you believe I word I just said. The car isn't stock (etc)"

That line makes it ambiguous as to wether they're talking about what it came with or what they put in it... They don't actually come out and say that the stock Boss has forged rods...

I will get my buddy to make sure either way as well. He has a Boss engine he is putting in his 5.0. He wanted it mated to a auto. He also was able to get his engine before anyone had the car. Also before the price took a huge jump.

He has a thread on modular about it.

They put headers, full exhaust, tune, cold air and other bolt ons on the car.

Re: Boss 302 vs GT 5.0

Forged versus cast

When a piston is cast, the alloy is heated until liquid, then poured into a mold to create the basic shape. After the alloy cools and solidifies it is removed from the mould and the rough casting is machined to its final shape. For applications which require stronger pistons, a forging process is used.

In the forging process, the rough casting is placed in a die set while it is still hot and semi-solid. A hydraulic press is used to place the rough slug under tremendous pressure. This removes any possible porosity, and also pushes the alloy grains together tighter than can be achieved by simple casting alone. The end result is a much stronger material.

Hypereutectic pistons can be forged, but typically are only cast, because the extra expense of forging is not justified when cast pistons are considered strong enough for stock applications.

Aftermarket performance pistons made from the most common 4032 and 2618 alloys are typically forged

Re: Boss 302 vs GT 5.0

HIS REPLY All productions rods in any engine are forged. You can cut a rod out of a raw billet, but that is too cost prohibitive for production, you'll only find billet rods at the high end of the aftermarket, the aftermarket rods you'll find most people using are forged. You can't use a cast rod in any engine, a casting would snap like a toothpick.

This is one of my pet peeves, people saying "well I got forged rods". Well your stock ones were too.

Anyway, yes the Boss rods are a little beefier, there was a thread on s197 about this, I think it got updated after you had replied in it: WWW.S197FORUM.COM Based on the different shape of the Boss piston skirt shown there, I would expect the street Boss doesn't have piston oil squirters in it, but I haven't yet torn down my Boss engine to be sure.

Your stock pistons are cast. Most likely from a hypereutectic alloy. This explains more: Hypereutectic piston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MY QUESTION TO HIM I have read a lot of different stuff. Are the rods Forged like the pistons? Or are they powdered forged? Also what difference then between our rods and the "powdered forged"? I read the boss ones was a hair thicker?
