Please Help!! Whistling when pressing gas pedal

I just installed the boss 302 intake manifold on my 2011 gt. Since then, there is a whistling noise when I barely press the gas pedal...it is mostly in 6th gear while cruising but will do it in every gear if lightly pressing the gas pedal. I put the stock manifold back on and it still did the same whistling noise. I cleaned the throttle body and re-installed both the throttle body and the boss 302 intake manifold twice. All of the lines are snug and the manifold is torqued to specs. My scan tool shows no codes and the cel is not on. I would think that this whistling noise is normal if I hadn't put the stock manifold on and it was whistling as well as with the boss manifold. I could live with the whistling if I knew it was a normal occurance, however, I haven't heard this from anyone else with the boss manifold, and I dont want the car to run lean. BTW, yes I have the required tune for the vehicle when I got the new manifold. Any ideas for me to check to stop the whistling??????

Maybe check the "sound tube" that runs into the firewall under the brake master cylinder?

I have the same noise, and I attribute mine to the sound tube and/or the intake. I don't worry about it at all, I still make good power with proper AFR.

Re: Please Help!! Whistling when pressing gas pedal

Chances are the whistling is coming from the butterfly of the TB. I have a 2011 V6 Stang and one thing that seems pretty common with those is that adding the CAI induces a whistle on the intake. In both your case and ours, I think its the increase in intake volume plus increase in air speed across the TB vane as well as the removal of the other convolutions that the stock intakes had causing a high frequency whistle across the TB vane in certain conditions, just like any child's recorder or flute. As long as the computer isn't throwing codes, there shouldn't be any problems.

Re: Please Help!! Whistling when pressing gas pedal

The boss manifold comes with new gaskets already on it. As far as it being the CAI, I already had exhaust, tuner, and CAI on it before I put on the new manifold and there was no whistle. When i first put on the new boss manifold, americanmuscle.com gave me the wrong tune for it, so i took off the boss manifold and put on the stock manifold with everything I previously had on the car and thats when it started to whistle. It does the same whistling now no matter which manifold is on the car. I will check the sound tube again. As far as the butterly in the TB, i've heard people saying to loosen it, is that something you've heard to do to get this whistle to stop??

No offense but if I knew where it was coming from I wouldn't have posted this thread... I will try taking the manifold out and checking the gaskets this weekend and go from there

I understand your frustration, I'm just saying it has to be a gasket / seal issue also check the block for residue, chips debris etc anything that can block a seal. Also are you 100% nothing fell into the block during installation

I always getting some sort of whistle when I stomp on the gas, either from my own lips or a passenger's

My seriously, get someone to rev it while it is parked and try to track where it is coming from. These guys are giving good advice and it's likely that you don't have a good seal

I tried revving it when parked and it doesn't whistle at all.. It mostly does it in 6th gear while staying at a steady pace or a lower gear if I'm at a steady pace.. Once it whistles, if I apply a little more gas.. The whistling stops

There's no leak. I have the same thing with mine. I do have the steeda cai, although I don't think that has anything to do with it. Like someone else mentioned, it's the throttle body blade and air flow around it causing it. That's why it only happens at a specific amount of throttle. Once you give it more throttle (effectively opening the throotle body and changing pitch of the blade) it goes away. Don't worry about the noise. if you want, try getting rid of your sound tube, that might lessen the amount you hear it.

There are probably a few variables such as barometric pressure, air temperature, humidity, etc that might affect it. I don't hear all the time either. Its a very specific throttle position for me. It goes away once I give it more or less gas.

Just took out manifold and checked gaskets... All look ok.. Reassembled and still whistles... Next step is to do something with the throttle body... Does anyone suggest fully loosening butterfly valve and reassembling?

If you're convinved there's a problem take it in have it looked at. That's my suggestion. Or just leave it alone altogether.

Re: Please Help!! Whistling when pressing gas pedal

Yeah but what if you buy a new tb and it doesn't fix the problem that would be an expensive mistake.

As much as I don't agree with puttiing the new one on to fix the whistling, it won't hurt either. It should give you a few extra hp and ft/lbs. Go ahead and do it but with the goal being performance and may or may not fix the whistling.

L&m proven to give 1HP to the wheels, I can find the article. That's in correlation with boss manifold 10hp with stock manifold

Good info, looking forward to the article. On the boss, does it help out the bottom end at all or is the 1hp gain at the top end?

It's a normal sound. Don't worry about it. Some do it, some don't.

Most have found this is a complete waste of money when have the boss. It gained 1hp/1tq when mated with the Boss intake in 5.0 magazine. $400 for 1whp/1wtq..WASTE FOR SURE!

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...test/dyno.html

They did mention it picked up down low but you look at graphs and they look completely the same.

There is a 87mm TB being tested right now. Think it will be way better for the Boss Intake then a 82mm.

Does it do it when hood is down and sitting still? Might be cold air making a crazy seal and cause it to whistle...My silverado did this with its K&N cold air.

Who is making this 87mm TB? BBK should be done with their 85mm, so who else is working on these?

I took it into ford... The tech said that it's not a vacuum leak if I could hear the whistling while cruising on the freeway.. He said it must be either the cai after the maf up to the throttle body.. He didn't have alot of time so he said to bring it back next weekend

Another company..No other info was put out besides a shop was testing it. They said they give more info once they test it. We will most likely have to wait 3 months for a magazine article.

No "fix" that I know of, yet. However, a different/larger TB will either stop the noise or move it to a different throttle position. I can barely hear mine over the exhaust but I could see how it would get annoying. I guess you could try removing the sound tube, and getting something to cap off the hole on the intake tube.
