2011 5.0 x-pipe

I have a 2011 5.0 and I'm curious which is the best catted x-pipe? I would like to have 3inch exhaust from cats back and I already have hushpower axle-backs.. or is there one x-pipe that's better than the other or one just as good as the next? I eventually plan on adding long tube headers later on down the road so I'd like to just be able to put those on without having to go back and change anything... Any comments appreciated

Not sure on which is best, but youre gonna have to change the midpipe when you get longtubes. Or at least modify the one your buying to get it to work

do you mean best in terms of quality or sound? as sound is very subjective

I dont believe there is much difference between them. Do you have emissions checks where you live or you just dont like the sound of o/r? You will have a nicer sound and better hp gains with an o/r. Not to mention there half the price

Re: 2011 5.0 x-pipe

The key to HP gains on these 5.0's seems to be the mid pipe. If you don't have emissions testing or you can somehow get around it go for a OR mid pipe, they are seeing the same gains as long tubes in most cases. If the car is a daily driver I would suggest getting a quality one so it last and doesn't rust up fast.

Nope i live in AR no emissions.. I just didn't know if the o/r would be too loud and/or "cackle" badly.. I had an 04 gt that I cut off the cats and it just had too much popping.. Sounded too much like a glass pack.. But I haven't heard any 5.0s in person with an o/r... Suggestions?

And also is the factory midpipe and back to the axle-backs 2 1/2in? If so what are the gains of adding the 3in from the midpipe to axle-back?

Re: 2011 5.0 x-pipe

HP gains of a cat back system on a 2011 mustang GT - Google Search

Sweet,no emissions! Go for that OR mid pipe then for the extra gains! You are right about the x pipe though,it will give that crackling/popping sound like on your GT and the cat back system is gonna give you a little extra over just a axelbacks which has no gains. BTW,the stock over axel pipes are 2.5 FYI.

I'm not a fan of the X either but check out this vid of the lethal OR X with 3" catback system.....ive been debating getting this, sounds badass!

My GT also had slp loudmouth IIs so I would imagine with these hushpower mufflers it shouldn't be as bad

Does one x-pipe sound completely diff from the rest? Or more power? Or can I just buy the cheapest name brand 3in x and experience the same sounds and power gains? Roughly... I'm leaning towards off-road now..

I think they all are about the same. I prefer Stainless Steel Works stuff. Always had great quality products. if you have no emissions and are looking for a good sound check out their stuff.

Yeah, you are correct. They are at the tip of the pay scale but as they say you get what you pay for.

Re: 2011 5.0 x-pipe

Exhausts/Catbacks - Products

$450 Isn't really in the range of serious money.

Mid-Pipes : Lethal Performance, Performance parts for Ford Mustangs

You are looking anywhere from $299-$500......which is not bad at all. Same price range as a cai and tuner combo.

Any reason I can't just get a muffler shop to make me one?? It'd be A LOT cheaper.. The guy I uses is pretty good and I had him make me one several years ago and it seemed ok??

Your not gonna loose any. Your relieving back pressure so you will gain. And as you said. They "claim"

Re: 2011 5.0 x-pipe

Do you have a intake and tune already? If so.....you are gonna see some nice gains. The OR X pipes are showing gains as strong as longtubes. There are tons of S197 (2011/12) guys making 420ish whp with those mods. The 2011s are really responsive to mods, more so than the 05-10 models. The OR mid pipe on these cars is well worth it.

So as long as my muffler guy just cuts out the center where the x meets and the whole thing is fairly symmetrical it should be good?

Re: 2011 5.0 x-pipe

I personally would go with a X pipe from a reliable source lethal performance. You bought a $30k+ car but you want to go as cheap as possible on quality when buying a mid pipe? No disrespect intended whatsoever but pick one up for $299 and be done with it. Isn't you're new investment worth it?

There is an art to pipe bending and welding. I personally like custom pipes

Um that is kind of offensive... If there is a way to do it cheaper and it's the same then what the problem??? It's called being on a budget.. I'm 26 have a house payment, a hefty car payment, and I make 10.50 an hour..
