For those that have installed the Boss Intake

on your 5.0 Mustang. I want to keep as much of the warranty as I can, and having said that...my dealership says that if they install it, the warranty is still good. My question is, since it requires a tune as part of installing it, what type does the ford dealer use? The service person said it is a Ford tune, but I want more info. Any info on this would be great.

I doubt they do any tuning.

Not likely. The boss has a different valvetrain.

Re: For those that have installed the Boss Intake

you dont really have a choice, if you want the warranty you have to let ford "tune" it which wont be the most hp/tq but I am sure it will be good either way

If they don't swap tunes the extra 53 hp it would retain in the 7800 rpm area will be useless since it will still max out at the same 7k it did stock

And then he'll be in for warranty work as soon as something goes wrong from running too lean with the stock tune. If you're right and they don't tune it it's going to lose power and safety...

I have a feeling the boss intake is going to kill the warranty on the motor no matter what the dealer tells him.

I'd personally do the steeda combo and if you ever need warranty work just swap out the stock parts and go back to the stock tune

where are you getting your 53 hp # from ?
Muscle Mustangs Magizine put that intake on 4 different 5.0 's and only got 24 hp with a tune ?? i think they got high 30's on the blower car ...

Re: For those that have installed the Boss Intake

people have seen high gains of 40-50hp cause after the 7k mark the stock intake falls off. The Boss carries up to 7800.

Before the Boss my car started dropping @6800 rpms. With the Boss it carried the power all the way to9 my red line of 7600.

On this article they gained 31hp with the Boss. Also gained 1hp with the Bigger TB with the boss but 10 with stock manifold. And more where the stock intake fell off if look at dyno graph.

It's not a peak gain of 53, there's a drop off of 53 in the 7800 rpm range if you don't have the boss intake manifold

That's the most BS dyno testing I've seen in a while.

CAI, H-pipe, and a tune makes nowhere near 437 rwhp on a properly tuned Mustang Dyno. Hell, it wouldn't even make that much on a DJ.
