Re: My 5.0 scares me....

The thing is that nobody knows whether or not the handfull of people didn't Fu#k things up themselves and really had nothing to do with the tune/tuner! What if the user decided to run the 93 race tune, but decided that 93 octane was too expensive (as it was, especially when first rumors/reports started) or think about whether or not the user messed with global spark settings on the tuner. too many variables, which is why AM/BAMA has a warranty now. Basically if you don't mess with the tuner and use the proper octane for the loaded tune then you will be covered.

yeah its because those chevy people are still stuck on the old push rod design I think its just dramatic people that want to cause a rise out of others attention getters on the forums reason they are there even on the forums is to cause discontent

After hearing all the #8 issues I'm afraid to tune now :-/ my car is currently stock and I plan to do the AM Bama 91 street tune with the Steeda or C&L CAI... Hopefully I should run less of a risk doing that setup?

I guess I'll wait it out a bit till the bugs are fixed... Warranty or not, I don't want to go thru that :-/... I hate my car being touched by anybody but me, as mine isn't a daily driver...

I only did my axlebacks which to me was the most important first mod.... I guess now I'll just save up and continue with suspension mods, I want to give it the proper drop

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

I passed on the Vette because it was a 06 which means it still has the LS2 (400hp) vs the LS3 (440hp) over on S197forum they have a poll and out of almost 100 2011/2012 cars there is only 1 car tuned car with #8 issue. That's nice to hear but still kinda scary. I really don't wanna trade the car off because I love it and can't go back to the 05-09 but it still worries me...no issues so far.

Cross that bridge when you come to it, have fun in the mean time. Besides, warranty might be covered if you return to stock and cover your tracks

There is no covering your tracks. They can tell no matter what you do that the car has been tuned. GM has been doing this for a few yrs as well.

Then DON'T do anything to it, that will make you FEEL better and happy and confident. Just leave the modifications to those of us, that feel OK with doing it.

HAH! I say-'don't be skeered'. No amount of 're-setting' the ECM, to attempt to somehow disguise the 'flashed' portion, will work. It is detectable.
Dan, 'don't believe the hype is a sequel'. Get that badboy out of the garage-with it's insanely low miles, and drive it. Stop worrying. Currently it's 'not broken'-stop trying to 'fix' it. Enjoy your car. Besides, we all know that the 'vette, is a fiberglas tub, p.o.s.c., anyway.

Well, see the poll in this section and the poll on the S197 forums for that answer. TL;DR - most people with tunes have no problems.

I don't know about that, I got a buddy who works at a ford dealership as a tech. And according to him, if you return to stock and drive it long enough to get all the engine diagnostics back in a ready state then your good. Unless he's just uninformed or its a new thing he hasn't seen before. Dunno. I wouldn't worry about it though.

While this may be true ... you might be hosed if the car is not drivable. I'm not sure it would be wise to drive around with a blown cylinder for a couple hundred miles, which is what I have heard it takes to accomplish this.

It's a personal choice. The entire scope of this forum has always been, 'it's YOUR car, it's YOUR choice, do as YOU will'. My car has power for days. It reminds me of my first Terminator-but without the supercharger. I have no regret(s), that I have decided, not to pour money into modifications-particularly since the monkeying with the ECM-with the new 5.0-seems to still be a 'work in progress'. You be the guineapig-again, YOUR choice. I have also thrown thousands of dollars at my high performance cars and trucks, over the years, and NEVER recouped a cent of my investment(s), when I traded out of them... I will probably get a short throw shifter, pretty soon, and I have considered wheels? Historically. Mr. KATO, I also do not keep cars very often.
There is strength in our diversity.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

Ken, with the `08, I bought tires, wheels(not 'rims' ), axleback exhaust, short throw shifter, MAF, CAI. If you read what I said above ^ the 5.0 is alot more Mustang, than the 'old' 4.6L, that I had. I have just decided to be alot more frugal with this car-because, I can-and because it's already a bada$$. I think you need a new 5.0 -since you seem to want to 'mod' the car. That's cool. Keep the forum, informed with your progress!!
