My 5.0 scares me....

All this #8 talk has really got me worried,to the point where I am considering getting rid of the car. I am honestly scared to go out and have a little fun with it because I do not want it to blow on me. I do have a Bama tune and I know that they are giving a warranty with these tunes but I am still on the fence with what they will cover for me considering I bought the tuner before the warranty deal came about. I also know that AM is saying that they will honor a claim for #8 even if I dont have a little piece of paper thats says I'm covered....again,this still worries me. I have gone as far as to get another vehicle lined up.....don't ask....because I am already flaming myself for possibly going with the car I am looking at. I'm not looking for a bunch of bashing here just some constructive opinions or advice. Also, this car is already paid down to right under $17k so If something blows and it doesn't get covered I will then have to possibly drop another $3/4k into it which will put me over what I originally started at.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

This sounds like a discussion you need to have with Bama/AM. Find out what their warranty covers for the #8.

This reminds me of when the 03/04 cobras came out. First it was the tick. Everyone freaked out and then the problem was solved. Then it was the #7 and #8 cyls burning up as a result of poor coolant flow.

Unfortunately, the old adage of you need to pay to play holds very true. Whether you keep the car and "risk" the issue popping up, or you trade it in and downgrade the car, there will always be a "risk" involved with playing with the car.

In the end, you need to discuss with Bama and American Muscle what their warranty means and what is covered. Maybe ask if they can send you that piece of paper you mention to help qualm your fears.

Have u flashed ur computer back to stock? Look whenever they find a problem like this they work through this and it pans out if they weren't able to work past these things they every tuner company would be going out of business give it time flash ur tune to stock and try talking directly with bama about the #8 cylinder issue they should be able to give u some info or may be ready to offer a fix

I am at the same point, I owe about 20,000 on my car and think now I could turn a profit or not lose out if I get rid of the car. But I truly love the car and don't want anything else but a mustang, well maybe a 4 door raptor. Maybe I should just upgrade to a gt500?

I think your working yourself all the way up for nothing, Crazy for thinking of letting the stang go. And a little horse play is not gonna blow up anything or are you at some Red light revving your car up to all the Redlines? If you are not doing crazy stuff light that then don't worry so much about the car. Now if the other car on your mind is another HP thing(vette, porche,Lambo,Farr), then thats another subject and conversation.

Go to that link it is saying American muscle representatives are stating they believe it is a knock sensor on the number eight cylinder

+1 to everything that's already been said. Keep in mind that the failures have been a tiny percentage of all 2011-2012 mustang owners. If you have concerns regarding the warranty, just talk directly to Chris Rose and sort everything out. As stated above, I think this issue is getting blown out of proportion and it will not affect my decision to stay with my car. I just love this Stang too much lol. Bottomline, modding a car has its risks, but as long as you're responsible about it, you should be ok. With that in mind, I would take it easy on really hot days since cooling cylinder 8 seems to be part of the issue. Other than that, you should be ok as long as you're not constantly taking your car to redline.
Good luck! I hope you get everything figured out so that you can drive your stang with confidence again.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

its always wise to be informed of issues and how to keep them from happening and such. I would recommend turning back the tune to be in the safe zone if you are that worried about it. Currently I have a lower timing tune in my car for that very reason.

In fact right now id be more concerned with an under drive pulley mod based on the damages people are calling out for the number 8 cylinder cutting down on coolant the way they do.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

I don't do the under drive pullies, cause of the slower component draw they have on accessories, I do do a little Music acces. So the draw is not worth the power loss and I heard that they were not all that good to have on your car anyway. Just my opinion.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

Im the last person to worry about voiding my warranty with mods but when its a mod that will blow out my #8 and I will have to pay $3/4K to replace it then its a different story. Last thing I wanna due is owe more money. Also Im not looking to downgrade at all,the car I have lined up will be the same payoff, same payment,430 factory HP,lighter and has more options than my curent 5.0 I wont be losing any money,it will just be a wash and I will have the same equity that I have in the 5.0 meaning I can always sell it,trade it in again and still be in the green. Driving the 5.0 is just not as fun without the tune....sad to say.

OK, I think getting a Vette is fine if that is what you want, but I also think you are overreacting just a bit to this no 8 cylinder issue...

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

I hope you met LS3 not LT3.

Go race a few vettes. You might be surprised on how fats your car is to theirs. Now some mods on that Vette and it is a rocket. BUt look into the LS3 they have had issues as well.

That and the #8 issue is being blew out of proportion. a few cars compared to how many running around. Some of said cars have been coming back that they didn't even have issues. One recent one is sai dto be driving everyday since he said he blew engine. WHo knows.

WIih that my car is tuned and probably one the most aggressive tuned N/A engines around. I have had no issues. I wouldn't worry about it. If that worried get another tune from Lethal or some one. Or go where I did and just get a costume tune. We are all in TX.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

I do agree that it is a little blown outta proportion also but it's a piece of mind deal for me. Like said before I don't wanna dump anymore money into it,especially to fix it. If I would have wanted to drop that kind of cash it would already have a blower on it. I'm really debating just pulling the tune for now until they have some more time to look into the tune issues and refine them a little bit. That or I could just stick to my original plan and say **** it,drive it like I have been and take it one day at a time because I really do love the car.

If you need that peace of mind then throw the stock tune in it...if you aren't as concerned as you look like your leaning then leave the tune in and ride it out, either way you will be happy and you made the choice you wanted, just don't make rash bowtie decisions when we all know the only reason any of us wear a bowtie is because its a damn buddy's wedding and hes like come on man i have to wear one too

Well if you do trade are you putting the stock rims back on?

If that concerned why not go with a tune that isn't know to cause issues? But yes it is blown out of proportion. I think people are worrying for no real reason. How many cars have not had a issue? way way way more then have. See if BAMA will give you a upgraded tune. They should since they have free tunes for life. Then that should give you the warranty also.

Re: My 5.0 scares me....

Everything will be returned back to stock.

Also,I've read where #8 was blowing on a street tune but that could be interweb mumbo jumbo too. Bama is saying that they will warranty anyone with a tune on a 2011 regardless if you have the paper or not. A tune update will not get me the piece of paper though, their lawyers are saying the warrant paper can only be issued with the purchase of a new tuner. I've had no issues and I'm completely happy with the car and my tune,it's more of a piece of mind to me. This was also the same reason I didn't slap a blower on my 07 because I wanted 500 WHP but didn't wanna risk blowing the motor.

And yes.......LS3

If you love your car so much, just buy a new tuner to get the paper. Is 3,4, or $500 worth the ease of mind knowing you are covered if something does happen? Not sure what they cost but I'm sure it would a lot cheaper in the long run.

I would like to actually hear from a Bama customer that has used this warranty. The Internet blab has said that there are some Bama customers that have blown a #8 on their tune but I'm not buyin it.....if that were the case someone would be posting about how they took advantage of said warranty.

W2GF....the wheels and tires have probably like 1k if that on them.

Whats funny is that ever one you here that blew up you can't find no info on them. How much was to repair, what all was damaged. The one guy posted he had his blow with a Lund tune, then let out he had like 4 other tunes before the lund tune that was in it like 2 weeks or so. So who knows. Then all sudden he was deleting everything he posted. Then some one who lives by him said he was driving it after he posted that info.

Honestly...the dealer is going to know it's been tuned from this point forward. Technology has finally caught up with modding. Your car will never be warrantied by Ford from this point forward for any drivetrain issues. Personally...I'd put the AM tune on and keep driving, if it's gonna happen it's out of your control.

How exactly are they going to know that it was tuned?

it will show up like a blank spot on the computer similar to u disconnecting your battery and reattaching it the next day. I don't know from first hand experience but that is just what i am getting from other threads

As above it stores it all in the computer. GM has been doing this for a few years as well. It stores key strokes and all. Many have said oh put stock tune in and disconnect battery but it was proven it don't work.
