Firewall padding wear

First post here, just bought a used 2011 GT premium convertible with 4800 miles. Love the car. I noticed when the hood is open that the padding on the firewall is worn at the very top of the firewall. There is also some small "thing" sticking up near the center of the firewall and I have no clue what it is.

Any ideas ?

The second photo shows the wear across the firewall pad. My only thought is a pressure washer.

Sorry to point that out to you. I'd bet that it may be warranty by ford. I'm more wondering why or how this happened. It's second owner syndrome.
