It begins....

My tranny started to go all crunchy on me today.

Warmed up to normal operating temp, went from 3-4 in a normal easy shift(about 2700 rpm) and CRUNCH!!

Tried again and slipped right in....smooth as ky. Did that about 4 times only in that gear change.

How does a syncro go that fast?! There's only 11miles on it!! It's never been raced, and I RARELY push it hard. This just irks me.

How does it only have 11 miles on it? Was this on the way home from the dealership immediately after buying it? I would have turned right around and told them what they can do with it!

Re: It begins....

Ahh that makes a lot more sense! I hope I don't have transmission problems, I REALLY don't want to take the Boss Intake Manifold off and return the car to stock. It's possible, but just a HUGE pita! Keep us posted on how this goes.

PS - do you have any mods, and if so are you planning on taking them off before you take it in?

The dealer now has the car. Manager says they'll probably replace the tranny. They gave me a used corolla as a loaner and I feel ridiculous on this little crap box.

Interesting note: the service manager said I'm the 3rd mustang with this problem at that dealership, and all three have had one of the optional deeper gears from ford. Don't know that it would make a difference, but it's definitely interesting.

Re: It begins....

That's a bummer.

Sorry to hear.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

If you could, please get a list of ALL parts used/replaced. I'd be interested to see if they sneak any "new" part numbers like Mazda did with my Speed3 when the stock turbo went.

All the automatic owners are probably laughing at us manual rowers

ford has been having issues with these transmissions on the 11+... seems they went cheap and now are paying the price for it.

Got a call from the dealership today. New tranny, clutch, and pressure plate going in. Should have it back in about a week. Have to live with the loaner "toyboata" until then

Glad to hear that they are taking care of you!

I would have the dealer put some Redline MTX in it, should work a little better with the weak synchros.

Hey, it's prolly better than the "imported from detroit" basemodel Chrysler200 I had for a month!

That car wouldn't even do a burnout(with TCS off) when going from reverse to first, I also lost a race to a horse and buggy!

The only redeeming qualities were it still had the XM radio and a strong enough e-brake to do some nice 180s

I would imagine this is why the NTSB is investigating the transmission issue. It will be interesting to hear their findings. Anyone know how long these types of investigations take?

Also makes me rethink installing gears. Would the gears by the true problem behind the transmission issue? If so, is it the Ford brand that is the problem and aftermarkets won't be an issue?

This is a very good question. I'm trying to order a Stang and i asked for 3.73 gears. So will I have a tranny problem?

With the information we have now ... I would say you have as good a chance as anyone else. I've heard these were all on early build 2011 Mustangs, but that's just an unconfirmed rumor.

Does it really make much difference? You're going to lose your warranty either way if you've modded it. You can bet they're checking every stang that rolls in for previous tunes.

I'm sure they would fix it, but they would void your engine warranty while they are at it.
