373 gear estimate

So I have decided its time for the 373s to go into my car and I am looking to maintain the warranty in the car which leads me to ford dealers only. The estimate I received from the dealer was 1200 bucks? I have never had an estimate done on gears so is that a middle of the road deal? Or am I getting straight up ripped off?

Re: 373 gear estimate

RIPPED OFF!

I bought FRPP 4.10's and had installed and only paid 500 total. I t hen also sold the 3.73's I had stock for $130. They had less then 300 miles on them.

Also why 3.73's? Best gear is really 3.90's from what I have found. I will be going to 3.90's. Out with the 4.10's. Also they will never really know you changed gears.

Well as far as I know they will based off the fact u have to get a tune to get it to read out right on the speedo and a tune voids the warrenty

True. But if that worried about voiding warranty why mod at all?

1200 is way to much for a gears. I would find another dealer if you really want the dealer to do it.

I have heard great things about the 373s and I don't want to go bigger without feeling how it pulls off the line something tells me my lead foot would be going through tires like crazy if I went deeper

Re: 373 gear estimate

With 3.73's your 1st will be short. I ripped my 3.73's out and went 4.10's BUt as mentioned I am going to 3.90's now. 3.73's don't let me pass the traps in 4th gear in the rpms I want need.

Also you do have a manual correct?

Yes...My car is way way from just gears though..

But with gears they should be able to hook up and just go in and change the settings. You really don't even need a full tune. That is all ford is going to do.

Well eventually blow it when it is no longer my daily driver and it's more of a show car. Long story short I made a mistake when I checked the gear ratio myself. I thought they were 355 and the dealer I bought my car from ran the code for my rear axle and I do have 373s. *forum members enter insults here

SO how are 4.10's no good on the highway? I have them and it is just fine. I knwo guys that DD with 4.30's in their 5.0. These are not 5 spd tranny's. That extra gear helps a lot. And for a manual car the 3.90's have shown to be the best for this tranny for drag racing. Combined with a 28" DR or Slick. It keep you in 4th gear and in the upper rpms. 3.73's keep you in 4th gear but lower in the rpms. 4.10's on the other hand have you shifting to 5th.

Now since you already have 3.73's You will not want to move to a diff gear since you want a blower. You most likely will want to go with a 3.55 once you get a blower. Use the Money you was going to spend on gears and get a clutch and flywheel.

No insult ever!...but did you check your gear ratio by jacking up your car and counting drive shaft rotations by any chance!...

Yeah that's exactly how I did it while holding one wheel stopped and a friend turning the other wheel I thought I saw 3 1/2 turns

I will look into that my next step is to finish up my front end with the Cali special front valance and a trufiber venom hood

I had only figured that because if you think you see that extra half rotation its a 3:55 or was it a 3 1/4 turn now its a 3:73!!...lol...
The only other way to know for sure is by counting the teeth on the ring and pinion...

Re: 373 gear estimate

I believe it was 3 1/4 it would have to be because the code on my door shows up in fords system as 373s. Yeah thats one of those times I was too smart for my own good thought I knew something and come to find out i should have just gone to the dealer to begin with

I did 3:73 on my 04 GT Auto and cost me $575 and that was with the tuner (I got to keep). I hope that it doesn't cost 1200 for gears, I have a 2012 now and want to change the gears out. As far as the warranty I don't understand why people just out right think that it will void the warranty. It only voids the warranty of that part/s that were broke caused by the mod. Just my two cents from experience and working with my Ford dealer. Ask yours. Yes others might disagree. I would also look into a local shop.

MT, yeah I know, I would have gotten it, but they didn't have any 5.0 available with them at the time.

I'm not positive, but if that is stock then that is what I have. I didn't bother to ask since I wasn't going to get 3.73 with the car. I knew that I would have to get them on my own.

If you are going with a blower later. Wait on gears. Most find the 3.73's and steeper to much with the blower. You have that one or two people that don't mind having no 1st gear at all.

yo you got 4:10s?? how do you like them? i know you drive a manual so i was wondering how shifting is.

does having 4:10s void your warrenty?

yo you got 4:10s?? how do you like them? i know you drive a manual so i was wondering how shifting is.

does having 4:10s void your warrenty?
Ya 4.10's might just void it. Depends on the dealer. MIne was cool with it. Even a tune/of road x pipe/cold air when tranny went out.

I will say 4th gear is pretty short. I will most likely be going to 3.90's.
