Winter Tire & Wheel ??

Picking up my 5.0 on Friday. Black on Black, GT Brembo & 3.73. This is my first Mustang, I've always been a Camaro guy but after wrecking my track car (RX8) it's time to get another track capable car. This time I wanted more power and handling so I decided Ford had the Bowtie beat as an all around package.

Now to the purpose of this thread. I live in WI and the 5.0 will be my DD. I had snow tires on the RX8 and it was fine in the snow. So my question is will the GT500 wheels on the link below fit the brembo pack? If so should I go with 245/45R18 or 235/45R18 of the Michelin X-Ice Xi2? I'm sure both tires will fit the 18x9's. Conventional wisdom says narrow is better for snow.

Not to be a damper bud but I don't think 18s will clear I mean the 9 depth clears alone by 3/16 of an inch and if the curve of the 18 isn't just right it probably won't clear but don't just take my word for it call am and they can give u some added advice

Re: Winter Tire & Wheel ??

You will need 19s with the brembo package. I have the optional 19s but without the brembo package. With the brembos you dont have a choice. I live in Michigan and mine is my daily driver as well. I bought a almost new set of GT500 SVT performance package wheels and tires for the summer. I am going to mount the winter tires on my original 19s that came on the car. The tires you mentioned look good. Check out Hypercoated 2010 GT Premium Wheel 05-12 Mustang (19x8.5) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! for another rim option that should fit for your brembos.

I don't think those are going to work because they are only 8.5 deep the stock 19s are at least 9 in depth. If you could get away with a set of all season with a 45000 mile warranty would you be interested in those??

Yea, I'll have to ask them. I've read a few in other forums that say the Gt500 wheels fit. If they do what do you think about 235 vs. 245?

Re: Winter Tire & Wheel ??

well when you start making those kind of adjustments I have heard....I stress this is third person advice but when you go up or down from the stock #s you through your speedo out of calibration. So take that with a grain of salt but I was looking to put 275s on mine and when i found that out I decided to stick with the stock tire size which the best i have found is a set of all weathers 325 bucks a piece Michelin apilots with a 45,000 mile warranty

The tire width change is only one factor in the diameter. Diameter is factored in with the aspect ratio of the tire plus the wheel diameter. If you want to go to say a 275 width you need to lower the aspect ratio from say a 45 to a 40 to stay close to original. 235 vs 245 in the same aspect ratio is going to be a little smaller diameter but probably not enough that you would notice. I would stick with the 245 though to get a better contact patch for the power in the car.
