Change Transmission Fluid

Hello all, new owner of 2012 Mustang GT Coupe here. I have not yet been under the car but am wondering about how difficult changing the transmission fluid is. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Re: Change Transmission Fluid

if its a manual trans there will be a drain plug(s) and a fill plug(s). You take out the fill plug then the drain plug. After its drained you put the drain plug back in and use a fluid pump to put fluid back into the trans to the specified level/amount. Thats about it.

For auto it will be more intensive.

Re: Change Transmission Fluid

Thanks. I should have stated it is a manual trans. Are both plugs on the side of the trans and easy to get to?

What's the reason for changing the trans fluid so early??

Re: Change Transmission Fluid

I'm having the 1 - 2 shift issue. Not sure I trust the dealer to do the TSB prescribed work properly. Perhaps I am being foolish. First time with a Ford.

I would just go to the dealer and tell them the tranny is notchy when it's cold and they will change the fluid for you. I believe they swap the fluid for a lighter grade

I am right there with you, I probably wouldnt trust Ford either lol....

I have never done it on a newer one, but on mine its basically what I said above. Get under the car and take a look, they are probably both on one side. The pump you will need is generally like 10 bucks at an auto store~ its a pain to load it and pump it in the trans but you have no other method really~

Of course use jack stands and all that to be safe.

Yea same here, I understand u don't wanna take it to the idiots at ford but at the same time, if your "new" car is doing something like that, there's a serious problem... Fixing it on your own is probably not gonna help cuz they will know u tampered with it and then your liable which voids warranty.... I'm sure u kno Ur stuff with cars but u gotta kno when to swallow your pride
