| I need a radar detector!
I've had way too many close calls since I bought this car!! I can't help but to hall ass wherever I go. Not sure if it's the color of my car or there are just more cops around these days but they're always around me. So passport or escort which would you choose? ---------- Post added at 02:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 PM ---------- Passport escort or valentine 1? |

I have whistler xtr-695, I think its an older model but it works great. I did some research online and I found a site that lets you put in the state you live in and it gives you some suggestions based on the questions they ask. The site is called radartest.com, then on the top click on find a detector. Oh and I searched around and found mine for like $160 something I think.

I've heard that the passport escort 9500ix is really good, but its also one of the most expensive. I will also be on the hunt for a radar detector soon...

I've watched a side by side comparison of those two and they are both about the same performance wise. The valentine was a little quicker to the punch though.

I had an old cobra that worked like a charm but now I have the iRadar (syncs with both iPhone and droids, also made by cobra) it also has a built in "report" feature like trapster so you can report hiding police and when you approach one it warns you.
It's only about 100 bucks since the brain of it is actually in the phone, however it functions without the phone as well. Best part is that it's power source has an extra USB plug in so you can plug that and your phone into the same port 12v port.
Haven't had a ticket since I bought it and I'm no gentleman on the freeway.

I went to Best Buy and while in the store pulled up the Internet on my cell phone and found it for $100.00 bucks cheaper. Showed it to the sales person and said, I am buying a radar detector today it will either be from you right now or by clicking them. Will you match that price. He did. It has worked great for two years.. I just sent it in and for $60.00 they updated the software and replaced the plastic body because the heat in the windshield made it expand and the screws would keep it closed. It is able to connect to your computer and download software updates with new locations of speed cameras as well as know radar locations that people like us report to the company. Nothing but complete customer satisfaction from me. I am sure so might have had a different experience, but I am happy. I have learned to NEVER ignore it when it goes off. Usually it is those stupid warning signs they bring out.. But every once in a while it is Johnny Law..

I have an escort 9500ix which I hardwired into my mirror and I love it. The gps feature is pretty cool because once it gets most of your false signals stored it stays pretty quiet. It also has a pretty good range, has always left me with plenty of time to slow down before I even see the cops.

Valentine 1 is the best radar detector. Yes it costs $400 but you get what you pay for. One ticket and the related insurance costs will be more than $400 I'm sure. My $.02.

My $.02. | This is why you don't get a bargain-bin $99.93 radar detector from Wal-Mart or Best Buy. You could be COSTING yourself money buying and trusting an inferior product.
Valentine 1 / Escort 9500ix are both excellent products and a worthwhile investment.

With the tinted windows it makes it pretty hard to see.

ive got a v1 since at the time it was the best radar detector. this was before the passport 9500 came out. now the passport is the best radar detector. the gps feature is awesome, and ive seen it pick up signals before my v1. the only advantage my v1 has is the arrows, which is really cool. that being said, the v1 has saved my ass more times than i can count. easily paid itself off 10+ times. but if this one ever breaks ill be getting a passport
