Exhaust leak question

So I finally installed the Heart Throb cat-to-axel 3" system, and I have a weird sound. I am assuming it is an exhaust leak, but can’t find where it is coming from. Does anyone have any advice on finding leaks? There were two of us installing it, and we had the car on a lift, so we took our time and made sure everything was positioned right. Started it on the lift and felt for leaks, but all seemed ok. This morning I drove her around to get the exhaust hot, and then tightened all the clamps. When I first start the car, it just sounds weird. If I give it a little gas, the sound goes away. It's not the typical ticking noise, but I just can't describe it. I am thinking of going to a local exhaust shop and having them fab up some axel-backs, but that will have to wait a couple of weeks. Anyone here have any ideas?

It's possible it is just a different sound Diego the resonators being removed, but it doesn't quite sound right. Maybe it's something inside the pipes and rattling.

Re: Exhaust leak question

Drive it look for black marks on the exhaust. This will tell you if it is leaking. They will obviously be around the clamps and joints.

Also, you can create some back pressure by restricting the exhaust flow at the tail pipe(s). Someone hold a rag over the exhaust tips and then the other guy then feel around for a leak. I had the same problem with a 4 banger. Crappy pacesetter header...

I did all the above and found the leak. It's where the H-pipe connects at the cats. I played with it for an hour or so, but no luck. I think it's an issue with the clamps. When I tighten them, they pinch the pipe where the two halves of the clamp come together. This is where the leak is. I went as far as to replace both clamps with the stock ones, and loosened the aft mid-pipe connections so I could properly align the connection; no luck. I think I will stop by the exhaust shop this week and see if they can work some magic. Before I do this, anyone have any solutions?

Re: Exhaust leak question

If you are talking right place. Or I am thinking right place. YOu are talking where they slide up and clamp? If so make sure they are all way forward. And then tighten them. I knwo some others had same issues. Just had to tweak it just right.

Also Worse case is have exhaust shop it with a weld. Like a spot weld.

Re: Exhaust leak question

I have the same issues with my X-pipe and catback system from Magnaflow.

I plan to have an exhaust shop weld the system together.
