I find that to be extremely unlikely. Police laser (lidar) doesn't even have a range of 5 miles, and the signal would be so dispersed at that range that it would be almost impossible to distinguish it from background noise.

Also, it's instant on, which means that your detector can't pick it up until they pull the trigger and most cops are smart enough not to light up every car that drives by since this sets of the detectors nearby giving the speeders a chance to slow down.

It still helps a lil to have a radar. Nothing is perfect!

I'm not saying it doesn't work or isn't worth it. I'm just saying if you're planning on a five mile warning for LASER you are going to be let down ... 1000-2000 FEET is more realistic. Five mile warning for RADAR are possible, depending on the radar used, detector used, geographic features and environmental conditions. Still unlikely though.

Haha, no. I just liked to be well informed about situations that directly affect me. Getting speeding tickets would have an adverse affect on my monthly budget due to their direct (fines/lost time) and indirect (insurance) costs. There is plenty of material available on the web about radar, laser/lidar, detectors, jammers and avoidance methods.

I heard if you wrap your car in bubble wrap they can't detach how fast you are going. Cause you appear invisible.

That's true but there's a split second to hit the gas before they look at the screen, I've done it a few times and at least drastically lowered my speed before they read it.

Re: Question for all?

Lidar fires ~100 pulses in 0.3 seconds, that is surely a split second reaction if you can brake early enough in the process to reduce the average speed reading. You may want to consider a career as a jet pilot or drag racer [/sarcasm]

Yeah because breaking early is something jet pilots and drag racers both do

Lol. Perhaps I overestimated how "quick" you are if you missed the point in that one

In all seriousness though, it's all but impossible to brake faster than a lidar reading. What is far more likely is that you were too far away for a reading that flies in their jurisdiction or they weren't able to get a reading on the first shot.

Yes, well played lol... Indefinitely agree its to quick to change speed in time, but every time I have been lazered and slammed the breaks on I have either been pulled over and told that I was going slower than I actually was (before slamming on the breaks) or they've let me go by... Just by trial and error it seems to help the odds lol
