Re: Evolution breaks 1000whp

That is crazy!

I wonder what the average MPG for this beast is.

I was reading in the 5.0 Mag about an 839 rwhp beast that averaged a bit over 20 mpg traveling through a couple of states to a show.

This makes me want to cash out some of my 401K and build a MASSIVE beast!

Re: Evolution breaks 1000whp

No issues with Piston#8 with the JL tune??? I have read several threads in various forums warning to steer clear of it because if this issue. Something about offsetting the timing a hair on that piston to give it that "loping" sound. We all know how many "experts" there on floating around the web with their expert advice. I personally did not think it was possible to change the timing on when an individual piston fires.... unless you switch out the cam for real.

I actually had my motor replaced by ford at 5400 miles cause my number 8 chili dee had a bad piston ring land and it ate away my cilinder and my piston but the problem is the PCM only set a P0308 code a number 8 cylinder misfire it took ford 28 days to diagnose my problem. Here's 2 photos of my piston.

Re: Evolution breaks 1000whp

It is not the tune. EVery tuner from Bama/Lund every one has had issues with piston number 8. It is a ford issue. More people is running Lund tunes then any one else tune. He is considered the best for a reason. His tunes are not in the fastest 5.0's in the country for no reason. Some thing no one else can say.

Steeda has not had a failure yet of course their tunes aren't as agressive as Lund tunes either heard alot of good things about Lund tunes.

Yeah wasn't his tunes the check engine light came on while I was idling in a parking lot!!! Scared the hell outta me cause it was a new car, but ford replaced my short block but they did a lot to try and prove it was my fault all I had was axle backs and a tune but I took the tune off before I went to the dealership obviously. They said it was a problem with the early build motors so it was a factory defect I worked at the dealer so I have all kinds of photos of my baby tore apart.

That you know of or that has been reported. Most with #8 issues are not reporting the tunes they had. I know of 1 that said he had a lund tune in hsi car. But he also had a BBR/BAMA/VMP in it also before the lund tune. He had all them in the car with in like a month. Shortly after he posted he had all 4 in car and tried blaming Lund he caught a lot of hell. Mainly cause how could he blame Lund tune when had all the others in it. How he know the damage wasn't caused by one the others before the Lund tune was in it. But most people have said it isn't the tunes taking the engines out. It is the piston rings or some other crap.

WHat funny is I haven't seen one yet have just a #8 issue that had FI.

I don't know much about the newer engines or tuners, but the AFM PMS will allow you to set timing and fuel for each individual cylinder on the Fox Body 5.0 pushrod engines.

I was the only one in the Baltimore Maryland area to have this problem it was my number 8 cylinder piston ring land and yes it's true with the warranties there cracking down hard.

---------- Post added at 10:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:45 AM ----------

By the way I'm the only one that I know of that had the problem in that area considering I know about 13 more people with this year but I've also had my car since July of 2010 and they haven't had any problems.

That is weird! U would think it would be more common with the forced induction motors. If it is factory defects causing the problem that totally **** up that ford is voiding warranty's and blaming the tunes for their screw ups!

I'll agree with that partially. I don't think it's fair to expect Ford to not void your warranty when you voided it. I think that's completely reasonable. However, I do think that if there is an issue that's a factory defect, it should be fixed regardless of whether or not there were mods present. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If it is indeed a factory defect, I would expect to see a class-action lawsuit and/or a recall.

Also, if you think about it, Ford has good reason to cover this up. They're already taking heat over the ching chong tranny that is majorly broken, if the engine was defective too, that doesn't leave much to praise about the design of this platform.
