It's still a WTF worthy moment, you're missing 1/4 of your oil.

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

Hey folks, new to the forums here. First post I read here is this one and it caught my attention. I have 2011 5.0 with just over 30,000 miles, so I'm pretty sure I am past the break in period. Anyways after reading this post I decided I should check my oil level, after checking it 3 times to make sure I wasn't reading it wrong I was down 1 quart. Is anyone one else that is over 10,000 miles still experiencing this much loss, mind you I had oil changed just a little over 2500 miles ago. Looks like I will have to invest in that oil can just to be safe.

I have a 2012 GT with close to 12,000 miles...I am still losing oil in between oil changes. This time doesn't appear to be as much as my first oil change. I am close to needing my second oil change and the oil level is just at the bottom of the "OK" range.

Wondering if Ford considers this normal usage, 2 qts seems like a lot.

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

Well after doing a google search it seems that most manufacturer's do not consider 1 qt per 1000 miles excessive. I guess the bottom line is to check your oil regularly. Currently I use Ford's oil from the dealership, basically what the manufacturer recommends. Wonder if changing to a better quality oil will slow down the consumption.

I drain my JLT oil seperator about once a month. It's going into your intake.

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

I just got my oil change a 2700 miles with synthetic blend. I'm not sure whats the difference between full and blended, but the guy at the dealer ship said I should do synth blend until I hit 15-20K Then never use anything other than full synthetic. Can anyone explain me the reason for this?

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

I got my oil changed today, I have been running synthetic for about a year now since I bought it. I drive 100 miles or more everyday for work so running full synthetic is def a more economical means for me, since I already have to change my oil often as it is. Today the oil was all black and sludgy, so I had to do an engine flush. The mechanic said it was normal, and that flushing the engine should be done about once a year. This isn't my first mustang, and def not my first car, and this has never happened to me before. Anyone have this happen?

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

Synthetic Blend motor oils are better than traditional oil but only by about 10%. With 10% or less synthetic oil being added to regular petroleum oil it does increase break down from heat and life a little but its still recommended to change every 3k miles. Synthetic has a longer life and stronger shield to heat breakdown, and is recommended to change every 6k miles.
When you first buy your car and you are breaking in your engine you need to change your oil every 3k miles regardless till your probably in the 15-20k range. Keep in mind there is no science to this part. It's all gut feel and experience. Ford doesn't put full synthetic oil in the car from the factory for a reason, not because they don't want to spend an extra $10 per car on oil. We are just going to pay for that anyways .

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

Have been watching my oil on my 2012gt and at 1500 miles it had just dropped below the low hole on the dip stick. added 1/2 QT and it was back into the good.
Was on a trip and just got back home with about 2100 on it so will check it again today to see how much that steady drive did on the oil level.

Re: 2011+ 5.0 Mustang Low Oil Thread

Took it to the dealer for a oil change today and asked the dealer what was I suppose to lose as far as oil comsumption. Got the standard answer for the 5.0 is up to 1QT per 1K miles. So I guess my 5.0 is under that so far. LOL

So just the passenger side separator is needed? Anyone with a driver's side separator ever see oil in it?

In 10,000 miles my 5.0 wasted 2 quarts. I asked FORD about this, and they explained to me, that is normal that the 5.0 waste from 1 to 1.5 quarts between regular oil changes.
By the way the oil change indicator is not accurate. Get use to check your oil levels.

After reading this thread, I went to check the oil on my 2013 GT and was glad to see that the oil level was normal. It only has 1500 miles, which is probably why it hasn't drop in oil. I'm going to keep checking it regularly and I'm also going to get a JLT oil separator. Don’t want oil in my intake.

How's your GT at this point? Do you continue to have problems associated with the oil or anything else..... I have reconsidered my plan to buy a newer model mustang GT....

Hey, how has you experience been with the 13 GT? I continue to read issues over the transmissoin... does the 13 have the one made in China?

This is my first Mustang and it's been a great experience. I haven't had any transmission issues other than having some trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd on high rpms when cold. But once the car is warm I have no issues when shifting.

This happened to me on my first week of ownership. Bought my 2013 GT used with 3100+ miles on it and when I casually checked the dipstick after driving it for couple of days, I freaked out! Oil level was at the very buttom of the dipstick, went to Autozone and filled her up with 2 quarts of OEM oil to reach the highest mark.

After reading around then I realized it was common for this cars during break in periods or at least on first two oil changes. I've been checking oil level regularly now and so far after a thousand miles it is still up in the high mark.

I just purchased my first Mustang. It's a 2013 GT, too. It also has a little under 1500 miles. Every time I pull it into the garage, even if I only drive it 10 miles, I can smell burnt oil; it is a very slight smell, but distinct. I'm afraid that it is just going to be a normal thing.

I hope what people are saying about the oil separators is true. It'd be nice to get this fixed.

Didn't realize this was such a problem, definitely worth investing in the jlt can and checking the oil periodically

Or - a better designed one I'm only running the JLT because I got it used from a local guy who was de-modding for $50. If I had to buy one new it would be the UPR or Moroso unit.

I had the same thing when I got mine!! Straight from dealer. I checked it, no oil on dip stick! Took it back after adding almost 2 Qts!! After first oil change I checked there at dealer befor I left , no oil on dip stick . So I had the service mgr look at it!! Turned out the oil tech guy didn't know that they use 8 Qts to fill them!! No more problems after that!!!

When I was a young pup, working in Dad's fillin' station, he taught me, after changing the oil and filter, and ensuring I had added the required amount;

1. Fire it up, while ensuring the oil light went out or the guage rose to the safe operating range.

2. While running, get out and look to ensure the filter and drain plug are not leaking.

If everything looks good;

3. Shut it off, then wait a few minutes before checking the dipstick to ensure the oil level showed "FULL".

If not;

4. Add oil until it does.

**Assumptions are not part of sound maintenance practices. Always re-check your work.

I was looking at used Boss 302's and came across a Boss 302R for sale in Florida. While looking at the photos, I noticed one oil diverter mounted on the firewall and BOTH passenger and drivers side hoses were ran to it. There were simple caps placed on the inlets of the intake manifold.

Anyone have any reason we shouldn't do what Ford Racing did and use one catch can? Does it have anything to do with emissions? (we don't have emissions checks in South Carolina - just curious).

Thanks,
Mike

Don't buy one, it is junk and I can't wait to get my traded in.
Do a search on Oil, Trans, Rattles, and how well the Ford dealer will take oh such great care of you when it goes in for service.
Sorry but for the money it is just not worth it.

First oil change since I got the Horse

I got my stang at 18,000 miles and just did my first oil change at 22,500 miles. After checking out this thread I went and checked the oil level again after about 400 miles since oil change and oil level is spot on. It helps to know that the motor has an oversized oil pan stock and holds 8 quarts. I used Royal Purple 5w20 full synthetic if anyone is wondering.

The only oil my '14 GT seems to be losing is the dab I wipe off the dipstick before it goes back in the block. At 1,500 on the clock, she still shows FULL.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums here. I've got about 9k miles on my '13 GT, and have had the JLT Oil Separator for about 2K miles. So far she's only filled up about an inch or so. I usually religiously check oil levels on my cars every 1.5K miles or so, and have yet to see the dipstick level really drop at all. I actually just had my 2nd oil change recently, and prior to that after 4+k miles on the old oil the dipstick was well within normal range, so maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.
