Muffler removal

I'm having trouble removing my stock mufflers on my 2011 GT. Got the rear hanger off of the rubber, and the clamp undone completely, the pipe is free. But I can't get the muffler to slide forward to free it from the rubber hanger towards the front of the muffler near the axle. Any tips on how to free it?

Re: Muffler removal

Its pretty easy actually, use wd40 to lube the rubber hangers off, its useless pulling the actual muffler off the hangers.... its more difficult that way. Also, u will need a crowbar to break off that link between the muffler and the pipe

Re: Muffler removal

you gotta use some old fashioned elbow grease man..you won't break anything unless you are the incredible hulk. Like Gt said though, make sure you lube up those rubber hangers and that will make life easier. Oh also, I put a wrench between the hook from the exhaust and the rubber hanger to help get it loose also.

You can also undo the bolts that hold the hanger, and pull the muufler of with the hanger.

Re: Muffler removal

No need for a crowbar or unbolting the hangers. Loosen up the mid pipe so you can slide the overaxel pipes back. This will give you the room to remove the mufflers.

Re: Muffler removal

Thanks for the info guys. I used the wd-40 and lowered the panhard brace on the drivers side . Gave me the rooom to make it fairly easy. The flowmaster classic american thunder mmufflers sound great, by theway.
