Ordered BOSS 302 IM

I ordered the BOSS 302 IM last night; let the performance mods begin! I will order all the rest of the parts over the next few months and then have them all installed, custom dyno tune and see where I stand. I will do a dyno pull before and after. I hope to have all parts installed by the fall.

Benzo, thanks for the following link (I do believe you were the one that tipped us on this), by far the cheapest I found on the net. $392 with S&H... Tousley Ford Parts Depot

Next will be 40 Series Flowmasters, JBA headers and catted X-pipe, CAI, tuner, custom dyno pull...Gears will come after all is installed.

Benzo, what CAI did you use with your IM?

FYI... The stock airbox (specifically the inlet tube) does not mate up to the boss instake mani.

---------- Post added at 09:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 AM ----------

I have the jlt as well and it fits the boss great but I have some issues with the heat shield. The clearances on it aren't quite right and it's tearing a couple holes in the insulation/hood liner.

I've read that and know that AM has an install kit for the stock airbox. But I think with the all the other installs I'll get more HP with the CAI versus the stock airbox.

That sucks, have you talk to them about it?

The cai vs install kit is mostly personal preference. If you go the cai route you'll need some tubing, worm clamps and a bolt.

No, I haven't talked to them about it. They came out with the coupler that actually fits the boss properly after I already bought it and offered to sell it to me at full retail price, so I would expect the same level of "helpfulness."

I just looked at that and was going to ask if you got it.

Silicone Coupler 3.5 ID (BOSS Manifold) [P-SH353] - $18.00 : JLT PERFORMANCE, Home of the JLT TRUE COLD AIR KIT

I like the painted tubing for the JLT CAI, I'm not sure anyone else does that.

It's free with a new CAI, you just have to select it. If you bought the CAI back when they advertised it fit the Boss 302 IM then you now get the privilege of paying another $20 to make it fit right

That sucks! I'll check it out. You think there is a big difference between the different brands in CAI?

Appearance and fitment, that's pretty much it. I like that the JLT looks like it belongs in a "mostly" stock engine bay. The (unpainted) plastic matches the OEM shades relatively well and isn't blingey like some of the other ones.

Here's a pic of it (sorry for the dirty engine bay):

Also, the heat shield on the JLT seems pretty useless. I might take it off ...

437rwhp @ 7250. Could've pushed it to about 7350 but really not worth it.

Says who? I redlined mine at 7800 with the boss. And was well worth it. carried the power all the way out. other thing is get rid of the bama tune and get a real tune.

From the picture can you take the padding off the top and then cut it down reinstall the padding?

Its not the padding, it's the hard edges. The padding couldn't really be cut down either, it's like weather stripping (hollow tube kinda).

I guess then taking it out is the only option...

I do have a dyno sheet. Dyno was done at B&D racing in van nuys, CA. I was the first 5.0 with the manifold that they put on the dyno. And it's actually 432. I don't know where the 7 came from. nonetheless it's great. I've seen people get more.

Honestly, I don't care about it enough to do that much ****ing with it. It's a minor cosmetic issue that nobody sees unless they are inspecting my headliner, and who does that?
