Time to Shine, off to the Body Guy

I will post photos as I get them from the Body Shop, YEsterday I dropped off my 2011 GT Convertible at the carefully selected body shop. The guy does classic restorations, specializes in Camaro's, but his paint work is excellent.

He is going to strip the vinyl striping, paint the stripes, paint the calipers, paint the 3D Carbon Eleanor grille, paint the windshield frame black, paint the coil covers and the intake cover to match the stripe color.

He is going to match the brick red interior, stay tuned for photos as I get them.

Re: Time to Shine, off to the Body Guy

So, were removing the vinyl, painting the stripe to match the interior, a thin black line will outline the stripe, painting the calipers to match, painting the grille, painting the windshield frame in black. And the intake cover, and the coil covers.

keep us posted, perhaps with progression shots as he works on it (stop by and snap pics etc)

also good luck on the work, hope it turns out looking good. I would recommend running my hand over the car and looking for overspray and getting them to remove it... dont buy the "it will just wash off" generally it wont just wash off.

Also look under the car for overspray areas, not an issue generally if the paint booth is decent.

Re: Time to Shine, off to the Body Guy

As I left, they were mixing the paint and placing the bumpers on the car to align the stripes. He said it would be shot today, and then it was wet sand, buff and re-assemble.

The home stretch. I might have it back for the weekend?

But I told them to take their time, its already been three and a half weeks.

Re: Time to Shine, off to the Body Guy

24 hours after the last visit, I stopped by, the stripes are painted, the clear coat is done.

The car is still in pieces and they haven't painted the windshield frame (which like the mirror caps will be Not-So-Glossy Black, to go with the look of the top and the upper body moulding.

Take a look.

Tomorrow is final paint work, and then next week, wet sand, buff, re-assembly.

Should have it back middle of next week, just over four weeks. After todays visit, its time well spent.

Looks great! I am going to get matte black stripes on my black car soon. I thought I didn't want the pin stripes but yours looks good so I have a decision to make.

That's a good question. I wanted a darker more classy look for my car. I had the vinyl and it was too childish both in style and color.

I wanted to pickup the darker red of the interior but not match it. Hard to explain.

After the masking was done the body guy, his painter, the stripe guy my friend and myself ALL felt the color was the right one for the car.

All said and done I'm quite happy with the results.

Thanks for the comment about the windshield frame, I really feel it changed the car immensely and I'm glad I had the balls to make sick drastic changes making this one quite unique but classy mustang.

I'm thinking about doing the airaid cold air intake and maybe the Boss 302 intake.

Plus the ford tune to go along with it.
