NOS kit

Had thoughts about sticking a nx express or zex kit to my car.. What the diff between wet and dry kits? What the safest? I'd like to be able to do a 100-125 shot.. Will stock internals and what not be ok? It'd only get used a few times a year at the track.. Fill me in on what I would need..

Re: NOS kit

You want the wet kit - it adds fuel as well as N2O (Nos is a trade name like Zex, the ricers from fast and furious are the reason that so many people say "nos" or "nawz" when they mean nitrous).

With the dry kit you only add nitrous and rely upon the computer to adjust to add more fuel at the injectors - but if your injectors are near max anyway you may not get the fuel when you need it. More chance of running lean with the dry kit.

A Zex kit is very easy to install because of the integrated nitrous management unit. Does the NX Express kit use the plate system? I've never installed one so am not real familiar with it - but if it is the plate that goes between the throttle body and intake that should be an easy install as well, and no drilling of the intake like with the Zex nozzle.

Ya I believe the nx kit is the same as zex w the plate.. What else do I need? Like should I install purge valve or anything?

A purge is a good idea, I found when I was running nitrous that if I went up to the line and followed the procedure as burn out - prestage - purge - stage that I had better times.

A bottle heater is a good idea too. I'm not sure where you live, but here in Michigan the early spring and late fall days I needed the heater (even some of the evening events at Milan I needed the heater in the middle of summer) to keep the pressure up. DO NOT use a torch to heat the bottle. It will weaken the bottle and that is when you get rupture.

Nitrous itself is not flammable (despite the fast and furious "nnaaaawwwwwzzzzz" scene quoted above, anyone who understands it knows that scene is so far from reality that it was funny). A ruptured bottle though is no fun, filling the car with nitrous and potentially doing some damage when it ruptures and the gas escapes very quickly.

Get a window switch too. You don't want the nitrous system starting up too soon in the rpm band, too low and it will put a nice window in the block - too high (like a missed shift on a stick while power shifting) and it will window the block too; or at least blow your intake off the car.

The window switch blocks the signal to the nitrous controller until you pass the rpm you set for the window to "open" and will shut down the signal if your rpm get higher than your upper window.

That Boss set up is really nice, a little more complicated, but really really nice!

I don't wanna spend a grand or anything though.. Just somethin to use a couple times a year at the track and have a lil fun.. Hell I gotta drive over an hour just to get the bottle filled.. And the track is about an hour and a half away so I don't make it often..

The hilarity is exactly why I posted it. The image was actually linked from a site explaining how nitrous really works... wish I would have saved the link now =\

Re: NOS kit

I knew you were posting it for that reason Napoleon - sometimes the written word isn't as effective a communicator as the spoken word!

As far as the nano kit - that thing is great, but for someone using nitrous for a couple of track visits a year the heater is more cost effective.

Agreed ... my sarcasm doesn't tend to come through quite right sometimes

Here's my thoughts on the whole idea.....

tag... ZEX 75 shot (safe) wet system, easy install, I agree with the window switch, if you hit the rev limiter it can cause serious problems.
NOS= Nitrous Oxide Systems the product the movies were pushing.

Go direct port. Best way t o do it right. Also you can hide it a lot cleaner. Completely under Boss intake. WIll never be seen less really look for it. This is Sean Kelley's new set up on his 9.2 1/4 mile car that will take him to the 8's and hopefully set a new fastest 5.0 record.

Re: NOS kit

Don't forget you'll need a tune after investing in this system...

and don't skip out on your safety products, a window switch will save you much more money in the future.

Also, a 125 shot is pretty healthy on a factory engine...

I had a NX wet kit on my Dakota R/T. I used a 100 shot. It was around 5 or 600 bucks from what I remember.

You would have to call nitrous Dave's in Waco TX. I would imagine least 800. That is you sending them your boss intake.
