Top Gear - American Version

How many of you guys saw the episode of Top Gear on the History channel that had the guys driving the Challenger, Camaro, and 5.0?? It was a great episode even thought they had the worst driver in the mustang. If you haven't seen it, you can probably go on the History channel's website and check it out. BTW the Boss made an appearance also.

I saw it. They also had the roush stage 3. I just wish they put the three around the track with the stig so the 5.0 could put up a faster time than the challener 392.
The part with the boss was awesome tho

Re: Top Gear - American Version

yea I saw the roush after I posted lol, I wish tanner would've driven them both. It was awesome to see him drifting around those canyon turns and talk about how wonderful the car felt. Also, it was interesting that the Boss was actually faster around the track than the Roush was.

That Roush was beautiful and I loved watching Tanner rip it up in the BOSS. I like the US version. I did meet Tanner at SEMA. Nice guy!

Ya that was my favorite episode as well. They have dream jobs.. I still say the 5.0 would have beat the Obamamobile in the first race, if tanner was driving.. He kinda has the advantage over the other two when it comes to driving..

Doesn't the UK show seem to put almost all american cars down? Just seems that way to me. They had the GT500 on there and all they did was make fun of it... They do have way cooler cars on there.. I will give them that..

The old gt500s were pretty slow considering.. Especially on the track.. Bet they won't be making fun of the '13 gt500s though!

So. He's entertaining and most of the time his criticisms are well founded. Don't take it so personally!

He is not entertaining!.. He is an arrogant A$$ who knows nothing about cars except what is scripted for him!.. And I don't take it personally!.. It just get irritating hearing others base their views on cars sounding just like him!.. I watched one show where they each had to purchase a 20yr old car for X amount of dollars!.. There was a BMW, a Mercedes, and a Ford!.. The Ford (I think it was a Tempo) out performed the other two!.. And all that idiot could say was how it was still junk, and rubbish!... How he would still rather have one of the other two than the Ford!.. "It's just a Ford!.." His criticisms are biased and uneducated at best!..

Me being a true car guy don't find that as entertaining!.. All I want is the hard facts on a car and I'll make up my own mind as to wether I like it or not!..

Firstly, he's been an automotive journalist for 30 years, He's host of the worlds most watched tv show, and the ford they drove in that challenge was made and engineered in Belgium. It wasn't the fastest nor was it that great. The bm and the merc were better cars. And of course his style is brash its TV! There there to be entertaining and get ratings. Clarkson isn't everyones cup of tea but he's spot on with most of his reviews. He doesn't hate all american cars. The whole top gear team love the mondeo (fusion here), and the fiesta and the mustang even with its shortcomings (x factor). When they came to america to.drive the.challenger, ZR1 and caddy cts V they had a great time and concluded that they were all great cars. Hell he advised people to buy a zr1 over a v10 r8 and owned a ford gt (which gave him trouble thanks to a bad security system.) He also tests cars in another market entirely. I wouldn't say they are bias against american built cars at all...

He actually buys a lot of cars. If I had the kind of money he had I would too. My only problem
With clarkson(I love the show an watch every new episode the day it airs) is his view on the lightning. Now it is sort grounded in the fact there are no trucks in Britain, but still that truck is awesome!

Re: Top Gear - American Version

I thought the show was pretty cool. Of course the things that they do have no real world practicality but who cares. The serious part of the show is when the stig runs the cars around the track. I don' really care too much for Clarkson either though. I guess he has one of those love him or hate him types of personalities lol.

Did anyone else notice that spelled roush "rousch" when they had the roush right next to him?

Re: Top Gear - American Version

The US Top Gear will never show one car superior to others. Did you notice that each car won one of the challenges. The same thing happened when they were in pickup trucks.

UK will say a car is a POS. US Top Gear will avoid making a statement.

The best US auto tv show is the Car Show on Speed.
