Tech question about exhaust? Axle back bolt to Cat back?

I have a 3" cat back exhaust system and was wondering if I purchase just axle backs will they bolt right up? I'm wanting to try some different mufflers.

Re: Tech question about exhaust? Axle back bolt to Cat back?

I have the Heartthrob 3" cat to axle kit, and had a local muffler shop install Flowmaster 40's. Prior to having the 40's installed, I just had the stock mufflers on and there were no fitment issues. The aftermarket kits are designed to bolt right up, so you should be fine. What typy of cat-back kit do you have? As long as it is designed to work with the stock mufflers, it will work with the major brands making axle-backs.

Re: Tech question about exhaust? Axle back bolt to Cat back?

Well I have the information from Flowmaster. Below is the response to my question in case anyone else was curious.

"No, the Axle-back exhausts are direct bolt-ons for the factory 'ball flange' connection, while our 3.0" Cat-back systems have a simple slip-on/clamp attachment. The OE pipes are also not 3.0"- they're right around 2.75" at the flange."
