Tires

Has anyone bought the Sumitomo HTR ZIII? Just looking for opinions. I have been doing research and they rated very close to the Pirelli P Zeros. They both are Max Performance Summer tires. They also sell them 275/40/19. The best part is $199 at Tire Rack.

You get what you pay for!!! I had the sumitomo htr zII's and they blew ***.. And that was on my 04 GT.. I can't imagine how bad they would be on a car w 400+ hp!!

I've been looking at bf Goodrich g-force comp II's. It's an ultra performance summer tire w a 340 utqg which is one of the best you will find in a high performance summer tire.. Same size is $246 each from tire rack.. not too bad and definitely trust a name like BFG over Sumitomo..

+1 I have worked at a tire dealer for almost 2 yrs and have never seen anything good with sumitomos. BFG is awesome, cost a little more but the ones I have are at around 9000 with only about one half of 1/32 of tread depth gone

Please elaborate because I haven't seen a negative review yet. They got a 8.1 rating from Tirerack and mostly all the reviews were positive. Sometimes these Japanese or Chinese companies have to step their game up to compete with the larger companies. For $200 you can't go wrong.

Mine wore out in less than a year.. On a auto car w 275 hp.. And those were 315s so I definitely wasn't spinning much.. Never raced on them either.. If you wanna go that route I'd go w the general g-max as-03.. Summer tire w a 480 tread rating.. Also $200 roughly

Re: Tires

I got 2 new Nitto NT05 275/40/R18 on eBay for about $400 and they are a WAY better tire than these.

Tread rating blows but good grip..

---------- Post added at 11:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 AM ----------

And nitto doesn't make a 275/40-19.. If they did I'd for sure be going w nittos.. Not saying they are not out there but good luck finding a nitto in a 19 for $200 a piece..

Yeah 19" wheels suck. I bought 18" wheels and tires (including drag radials) for about the same price just 19" tires would have cost me, and that was sticking with the narrow stock rims...

Pretty ridiculous huh? I just think they are the perfect size(IMO) though...

Aesthetically, yes. The good things stop there though. They are far too narrow to put any kind of useful tire on (the brembo wheels are a little better in this aspect than the normal 19s), they are extremely difficult to balance, and the tires that fit them are insanely expensive.

Yet another reason I'm glad I went brembo! Lol... I do wish I had a 9.5-10 in back though..

They're only marginally better... Still, if I could go back and do it again I would get a base gt with the brembo pack and auto instead of this bull**** mt82. I would take the wheels off new and sell them anyways though. They're in high demand, for a reason I can't quite figure out.

Ya I know I got so much sh*t in my 04 GT for having an auto so I was like this time I'm goin manual!! It is a lil more fun and I haven't had any problems yet but I'm terrified I'm goin to... And yes I'm aware they're only a half inch wider.. Not much but just sayin adds to the list of little things (and big) that make me glad I went with the brembo pkg..

You can sell the wheels and tires for more than the package cost and keep the good brakes

Re: Tires

I actually just put a set of the HTR z3s on the rear. They were able to fit 255/50/18 on the stock base model wheels. After doing a lot of research I found that the HTR z 2s are no comparison (I never owned those and only have the stock pirellis to compare them to)

Honestly they grip pretty damn well, there's no comparison between them and the stock pirellis I had, you have to really try to spin 1st and 2nd will just chirp at WOT... it just grips and goes... no complaints from me but I'm still stock
