x-pipe

I've been thinking about installin an x-pipe lately but I have a few questions before I pull the trigger.

1. I'm not sure if I would like the sound. It seems to me like a lot of people absolutely love it. I need opinions!!! What do y'all think?

2. Does brand make a difference or do they all sound the same? What are you guys and gals using and why?

Anyways, my plan is to install a catted x-pipe and cut out the resonators. I'm running hushpower axlebacks.

Re: x-pipe

If going to do it install a off road x pipe. It will get louder but free up a lot of power. The restriction is the catts really with these new cars. Lethal has a nice one that isn't crazy expensive.

Re: x-pipe

From what I've seen the OR mid pipe frees up as much power on the new 5.0s as LTs. I've been debating doing this to mine since I bought it just for the power.

Re: x-pipe

Cats really rob these cars of power. If you are looking for the gain go OR,if you just want the sound get some HF cats to go along with it.

You could just go with the cut and clamp style that uses the factory cats.

When I added an after cat frpp x pipe. The sound from my roush axle backs mellowed and the sound level dropped. Better sound but not as loud as with factory h-pipe. Next up cat delete pipes and a bama tune!

Re: x-pipe

If you're wanting obnoxious, do the O/R X-Pipe. I just installed the 3 piece from Lethal Performance last week. I got that one so i could put cats back on for inspection.

With the Roush A/B's, it is crazy obnoxious on cold start and when jumping on the gas. But not too loud at all when just cruising.

I would say only reason to keep cats is if.your dealership is a pain in the butt bout stuff they could try and blame everything that mite go wrong on your car bc of "emissions problems "since ya don't have cats....just a thought only reason they are.still on my car

Some states require them for emissions testing as well. This is why most people keep them...

None in VA either. I just wish my dealership was cool with mods

I'm honestly surprised they are legal anywhere. Their primary purpose is to assist in breaking the law (not touching how I feel about my tax dollars being used to pay cops performing revenue enhancement, just staring facts here).

I agree with that, but I had a state trooper go waaaaaayyyy out of his way to give me a ticket for one. Haven't used one since, and that was 4 yrs ago. And they ARE legal in Kentucky.

Yeah they typically don't like them too much ... we should get back on topic or start a new thread about this though.

If you want it to be raspy and have more mid to high range power go with the x-pipe. I was going to go with an offroad x-pipe until i called the guys over at SLP and said that i would actually lose low end torque by running no cats. Best way to go is run 200 cell per inch high flow cats as opposed to the 600 cell per inch stock ones. SLP said when they were building the kit they make for our car, they designed one with no cats and lost 15 ft lbs of torque at low range. i mean how often do you really drive at more than 3000rpm? to me a couple horsepower isn't worth the loss of torque, these motors already have less of that than horsepower anyways. i'm not saying this is completely true, but almost verbatim what SLP told me and i bought their kit from the headers to the tips and i couldn't possibly be happier with it. its louder than my buddies GTO with long tubes, OR x-pipe, and spintech mufflers (whatever company that is)

I already installed mine, it actually feel like I lost midrange tq. Low end seems to be even better. But that's just me talking about what I feel... The dyno is probably more accurate.

That doesn't sound right at all. I felt like I gained a lot of midrange torque due to the lack of restrictions ... perhaps you're feeling the lack of "push back" from the exhaust and confusing that with loss of torque?

Very possible... I'm just going by what im feeling and hearing and may be confused lol. The dyno will tell me the truth haha.
