3.73 gear install

Just got quoted 600+ and I already have the gears and bearing kit! That 600+ was just for labor!!

Ridicoulous!

I am definitely going to look around for other options, but does anyone have suggestions for me?

Re: 3.73 gear install

thats no good... i have an 04, but regardless, job should be about the same. my local DEALER told me 250(i can buy for 179) for the parts and 250 for the install. that sounds fair to me! (there are a couple mustang 'enthusiasts' in the service dept., so don't if that helps, but nonetheless)

good luck! you should be able to find someone-

Go to ur local short track and ask who sets ther rearends up. Anything over $300 , your gettin ripped off. It takes 3-4 hours to install if u know what ur doing. If they make more noise than stock, it was not done rite.

My dealer told me it would take 6-7 hours the actual guy who quoted me was a "mustang enthusiast", or so i was told. When he said 600+ I said "K thanks, bye!"

I've done gears before in my 72 gran Torino but I'm a little hesitant to do it with my 5.0.

Re: 3.73 gear install

even though I believe 600 is far to much (some shops over quote just so you WONT ask them to do it as they dont like doing it) its just the way it is sometimes. Shop around BUT do not pay a little to get a crappy job that will end up costing you more than the 600 would have in the long run.... research and talk to owners in the area and find a shop that does good work.

His money, hind site is 20/20. Local short track guy does it in his sleep. That's why he'll b cheaxer and better. I was in his shoes a month back. I lisened to all the threads and took it to a speed shop, even tho I coulda done it myself. They had it 2days (knew I was in trouble ) and the 30 mil ride home almost burnt the rear end up. They set it up with 0 back lash. Just my $.02 worth. You don't allways get what u pay for. And yes the shop had a very good reputation, so did my ex wife.
