New 5.0s really are fast!

So i met this sti yesterday and we became friends after we raced. Anyways we had 3 heats and we both mishsifted into third on the first so we waited to start again. 2nd heat i beat him he claimed turbo lag and third heat i misshifted lol third but before that i was creeping away. Anyways i gott to say the torque is impressive in these cars. I thought when we both launched he would dust me but he had turbo lag and boy can i tell you did i pull on him! I had no idea these 5.0s were so fast. His sti was a stage 2 intake exhaust turbo back and tune street tires. All i had was drag radials kn drop in and catback. I hae the tune and x pipe at home. How much faster is this thing gonna get lol. If he had drag radials it might have been different. He says he doesnt need them cause of awd.

Is the x-pipe catless (off-road)? If so, you might see as much as 40-50HP from those two mods depending on who is doing the tuning.

You do know the 5.0s respond differently to mods than the 4.6 3Vs do right? I've seen people putting down 415-425 rwhp with an offroad x and tune...

Sounds like you seen a auto dyno then a manual. And if the stock GT put down 395 then it needs a new dyno operator as that is 20whp high

There should been no reason the dyno so far apart if both stock. Less one was done in 4th and one in 5th. And then should not have done 395. Not even on a dynojet. Sounds like operator error. That or needs it calibrated.

Don't forget that every car is different, and both with different miles, the lead mechanic has been tuning cars for 10 years, I don't think it's him, and the dyno is only about 3 years old. Both dynoed on different days different temperature

All depends on dyno..but average on a stock 5.0 manual is about 370. Some have seen 365 lowest and 380 highest. A lot of that is just different days and also who is operating the dyno. What drive train loss they put in, correction factors, smoothing, sae or STD numbers also.

I agree. Dyno numbers are pretty. But I prefer to see track Tim's or how compares to other cars on the street for example.

A lot pellets ask why I don't monitor boost. Same thing as a dyno. Its a number. If I do get a huge spike in boost by time I notice it on gauge the engine will be gone anyway.

It would be nice to say hey,I have 400+HP but I'm not really gonna use it to much. Maybe one day I will take her to the track but for now it's just to put a **** eatin grin on my face when I'm having a bad day.
