Window Tint

I know this is a really lame question but here it goes...

I'm getting my windows tinted Friday. I have to choose between SunTek and 3M. 3M is about $60 more expensive. The installer tells me that most people go with SunTek. Any experience/preferences with these brands? I'm looking for something that looks good when it is done and that will hold up for a long time.

The Dealer tinted mine when I bought it. They used 3M. I haven't had any discoloration or bubbling. It'll be two years old in June. My 240sx was tinted by some mom & pop shop. I'm not sure what brand they used but it's only been two years and it's turned brown.

Do they offer any kind of warranty for the 3M tint?

Re: Window Tint

For $60, I'd go 3M. Do they give you any kinda warranty?

Re: Window Tint

I need to find out about the warranty. I was leaning towards the 3M just to be safe. I just hate to find out that i wasted $60 for no real difference.

3M, most places that use it offer a lifetime warranty with it

I work at a tint shop.. Been here over 4 years.. 3M is not that good when it comes to window tint.. Fades quickly.. Suntek is a lil better actually.. BUT Llumar is the best.. Lifetime warranty regardless of where you go to get fixed.. So given my experience I would go w Suntek over 3M..

I would also stay away 3M in tint, my tint man says that he won't install it even if someone pays him extra to do it...

Yes not only is the quality not as good but harder to install therefore usually makin it very difficult regardless of experience level to do a good job..

I would look for a shop that uses llumar. I have used the same tint guy for about 10 years and he swears by llumar, 3M according to him does fade fast and Suntek he said is good for what you pay for but not the best.

Yes my bosses have been tinting for 25 years between the two of them.. We've been open since '93 and they've used everything out there.. They're very good and swear by Llumar...

The only awesome thing about 3M is that when you remove which you will have to eventually most of the glue comes off w the tint as opposed to staying on the glass.. That stuff can be a B*TCH to get off sometimes.. Especially on the rear window as you can't use a razor blade if there is a defroster or your defroster will no longer work

I wouldn't say it's exactly a ma n pa type shop.. But definitely not a chain.. Same guys had a shop in Fayetteville, AR w 10 employees and grossed over a million their last year there.. Which is REALLY good for Arkansas.. Someone came through one day and offered good money for it and they sold and just took off for two years traveling n what not.. Then reopened this shop which they had sold to one of their old employees who ran it in the ground..

Compared to what? Compared to Johnson films maybe... What do you base this off of? Just the name of 3M?

Compared to suntek, which was his original question. 3M or suntek. 3M is better than suntek. Ive had 2 cars with 3M done by 2 different places and both cars turned out great.

So you had suntek also? He later said the shop also has llumar but he didn't get a price quote for it.. If your a good tinter then you can make any tint look good.. The question is for how long will it stay that way? 3M Film has one of the shortest lifespans out there.. In as little as a year you could notice it starting to fade.. a large percentage of those cars you see driving around w purple windows have 3M window film..

Llumar is the best bet, not disagreeing. In my experience 3M has done just fine. My cars were garage kept and 35% is all u can legally have in PA so i never noticed any fading. U say u do tint so ill take your word for it, but that is just my personal thought.

Being garage kept would help and also living up north with the colder weather..
