Re: Gt500 vs 5.0

I would put my money on the 5.0 at the strip. The GT500 is to hard to launch. I just watched a new one run 12.7-13.4 stock. Seen 5.0's do better then that stock at same track same night. On the street the GT500 will walk away.

Practice practice practice. On stock tires even heat them like John Force. It helps perrelli's.

When I was cold air, rune, x pipe I walked a 09 GT500 bad on the street. He had just bought it. I bet he wanted to take it back. LOL.

Totally agree with that, especially I the 5.0 has gears... Lighter, steeper, better suspension and more usable HP. Gt500 would definitely take it from a roll above 60 though

I think you're screwed though if it has radials/slicks

Idk how you can make up for 80hp. The 5.0 is at 420 and the gt500 is at 500. I would say gt500 even if the 5.0 has some mods i doubt it's gonna give it 80hp. But thts just my opinion lol

Re: Gt500 vs 5.0

nope, wnt2gofst is right. If he's running street tires there is no way he is hooking up. way too much power for those tires to handle.

No chance if he is on stock tires. I've watched them run 13+ all night on stock tires. It's not about HP, it's about how the car puts it down, power to weight ratio, etc. Shelby is expensive bc of the name. Blown 5.0 would eat one up all day. Not dissing the car, just how it is. I was so close to buying one but couldn't see the reason I was paying that much more for the Shelby and its insurance along with it.

Well being the 5.0 on average is about 250lbs lighter less op has a base then its about 400lbs. So no need to make it all up. My base weighed in under 3500lbs and a 05-10 GT500 weighs almost 4000.

Not to mention the GT500 will suffer from heat soak and his 5.0 will not. Even on the highway suffering from heat soak the GT500 is in trouble.

Re: Gt500 vs 5.0

I have to agree the 5.0 should take the GT500. I ran one at our local Flashlight Drags (1/8 mile, no scoring or times) on an airport runway with no prep. Had him right up till before the 1/8th. Here is a link to my run. Please forgive my cheering team wanting me to win...He was only 4 at the time!

Having driven both an 11 5.0 and my 12 GT500 I would say with the 5.0 on DRs an the GT500 on stocks the 5.0 will pull off the line. As long as there is no sloppy shifting in the 5.0 it should get to the line by about a car. IMO

Look under the hood and check the throttle body and pulley. Usually first thing changed by gt500 owners for the new air intake.

When Top Gear dyno'd a older 07? GT 500, the car only produced like 420-450. And that was extrapolated to be at the flywheel not rwhp.

The stock GT500 of 05-10 made a lucky 420whp-440whp.

Really? I would have expected 450-470 with them being rated by Ford for 500 at the crank.

That's ridiculous! They were charging people $45-50k base for those and they weren't getting much more power, if any, than a $25k coyote base GT.

HAve to look what year it is. He said its an 07 so it is leaps above the GT of thattime frame. The GT then was around 250whp stock and rated at 300hp. The gt500 was 500hp. Now they have the coyote look what has happen to the GT500. Was simple 550hp with aboput 480-490whp but now leaps to 662hp which should put about 590-600whp.
