2013 Engine Ticking

So my car is about a week and a half old and I noticed a irregular ticking/tapping sound coming from the driver side of the motor, took it back to Ford today...and they think its a bad lifter...and I am not happy about it at all...now I have to wait for the Ford Engineer to get back to me to decide what to do.

At least they didn't tell you it was normal. That's what they have been telling most people.

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

**** happens. You can't expect every brand new car that's rolls off the assembly line to be trouble free. The same goes for clothes, shoes and even the way your steak is cooked. That sucks but you have a warranty and hopefully they will make it right for you. Just don't lose faith in the Blue Oval,it will pan out in the end.

Good luck.

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

expecting all ASSEMBLY line produced vehicles to come off the line in perfect condition is like expecting a modded hyundai genesis to be a panty dropping hot rod...Ford will/should take care of you if you do have actual internal issues. Good luck!

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

Had the mustang back at Ford today so they could run some test on it..I will say this..Ive had 2 service managers come up and tell me if they were me they would be very PO'D and to ask for a new car. I did make it very clear that there is no way they are tearing that motor apart, and the only options are a new motor or new car, so lets see what happens as a result of the testing they did, they did find a malfunction in the lower part of the engine, not sure what that means.

Good!! not that you are having issues but that they are taking care of it. I love my dealer and know that they would take care of me regardless of what happened or what was modded!! so far they have anyways!!

I guess u have to let these motors break-in before u tune or do anything crazy to void warranty... had mine for a year with 5,500 miles no problems at all, but I did burn about 2 qts of oil after my 1st oil change at 1,300 miles... did my oil change again at 4,500 and it never got low again... so I'm assuming its within the break-in phase... no issues with my manual trans either

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

Ford called me today, they are going to completely replace the motor with another, which im happy with. So for giggles I asked what it would cost to have a Boss 302 installed instead, I wonder what they will say.

Pretty sure you'll have to pay the difference in motor cost but hey... Sleeper!

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

2013gtstang....what dealer are you having this done at. My 2012 started ticking yesterday at 7500miles. I take it in Monday. This is my second new mustang with the tick. My 11 started ticking at 10k and finally traded it in with 30k still ticking. My dealership replaced all my timing chain components, cam phasers and lifters and gave it back to me still ticking. At first I asked for a new motor and they refused. I was the first recored 5.0 in southern cali. This time im getting this fixed asap. I would greatly appreciate any info you can give me. I'm glad to hear they are replacing your motor...and how quickly its getting done.

Kenny Ross Ford South in Pittsburgh, Im amazed at how much the service Department was backing me up, 1 of the service managers straight up came and told me if that was him, he'de ask for a new mustang. Im still worried about having a motor replaced, I just hope they go over everything twice to make sure all lines and everything are connected properly, I dont want to be making trips to the Service shop instead. My dealer contacted a Ford 5.0 engineer to get the ball rolling on fixing my mustang, so that seemed to kick everything in gear.

Another reason i traded my 2011 GT/CS in- no being a wuss about it but that motor has a lot of little issues that build up to bigger issues- plus i tuned mine at 500 miles- traded in at 7900- no issues but i was scared to supercharge it and destroy it lol.

Except for the guys running hellion kits... Almost every one of those have blown the motor. Had a guy in a local mustang club run one for a bit until he blew his engine.

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

They ran some diagnostics on it, but without physically tearing the motor down, which I wouldnt let them do, they cant figure out the ticking noise.

How could you stop them from fixing a problem with your motor?? I find it hard to believe that the motor made a noise and instead of investigating, they just said ok new motor no big deal. I worked at a Chrysler dealership for 3yrs. No way Chyrsler would replace a motor unless it had a rod through the block. One guy had to go to court because they couldn't stop water leaking into trunk. Took almost 2yrs. And from what I've heard Ford doesn't like to cover warranty issues either. So hard to believe you said just replace it....and they did

Re: 2013 Engine Ticking

Well im not making it up, they wanted to go with a short block, and piece it together and I said no as did the Service department. So after about a week and a half the new motor came in, and in went the mustang for a new motor. I put markings on the motor in a few spots, so if its not switched out ill be able to tell.

Good for you bro. Not calling u a liar just thinking they must have heard something on the bottom end or the computer saw something really bad. And no I wouldn't let them install a new block. I also know these motor tick so maybe it was more of a knock? Anyway sucks to be without your car but at least it will be new still not rebuilt. +1
