5.0 isnt slowing down

Have noticed after my intake tube fell off of my throtle and i was driving with it for a few hours, i reattached it and performed the fuel trim because it was idling weird... The idling problem was fixed but i have notice now when i accelerate for instance in 2nd gear to about 2500rpm and release the accelerater it start ramping down but hangs at about 1500rpm and very slowly drops... It never use to do this at all it would ranp down to 1000rpm nicely... Any1 ever experience this?

Re: 5.0 isnt slowing down

I would unplug the battery for 20-30 mins. Then connect the battery, start it up and let it sit at idle again.

Unless you got a rock in there, which would be catastrophic so you didnt. I Ithink you just need the ecu to relearn the air path = disconnect battery procedure. Id say ur fine

Is this ECU reset procedure good for all the OBD2 Mustangs?

Kinda ... but it's specifically important for the new 5.0s with the Copperhead ECU. Consult your owner's manual if you're running something else.

I think u have to do the ac procedure too.

Start with cold engine, idle till you reach normal operating temp

Let idle for one min at normal operating temp

Put ac on full blast idle for another minute

Turn off ac and drive for 10 miles

He said he already did that in his first post. I'm starting to think something else is going on. Didn't somebody have a similar issue recently and their intake coupler was loose or not fully connected and letting unmetered air in?

So can the 4.6s exhibit the same probs that require this re-learn procedure? I have the 4V.

Maybe ... consult your owners manual. Not trying to be rude man, but we aren't talking about the 4.6 in this thread. The 5.0 and 4.6 are completely different animals, and the Copperhead CPU is VERY different from the ECUs in previous Mustangs.

Understand. Sometimes it's hard to get answers on a specific topic cause nobody responds to the thread. I was just curious if the re-learn fixed similar problems. I found how to do it, just wanted to know more about it. My bad.

I don't think it's as drastic/important on the 3v engines. Might want to check in the 05-09 forums since they have all the same engine/trans/ecu that the '10 does. Only difference in the '10 was the styling (unless you have a track pack car).

Actually I'm a 04 Mach1 4V. I think the fact that they were both DOHC was making so interested if there were similarities w/re-learn and symptoms leading the need for it.

You're in a whole different world then. I didn't know the Mach1s were 4V engines, thought just the 03/04 Cobras were.

Yup, I believe it basically the 99 cobra engine. It's not forged internals and has an aluminum block.

Correct.....except it didn't have the same issues as a 99 Cobra.
