2012 mustang gear change

I plan on upgrading my 2012 ford mustang 5.0 automatic from a 3.15 gear to a 4.10 gear. Do I need the 140 dollar calibration tool for the speedometer or will my tuner I got for my car from american muscle take care of the issue. I got the sct tuner.

Why do you want 4.10's? What are your other mods?

Re: 2012 mustang gear change

Right now roush axle back and cai. Bama performance tune. Boss intake is ordered and will be delivered thurs or Friday. Looking for faster launches at the track. That's what everyone suggested at the test and tune yesterday. 13.22 stock. 12.77 with the roush and tune

Best launch is going to come from a stall.

More gas...LOL..do a stall over gears. Gear change your going to see .1-.2 in crease 60ft. With stall you will see it drop .3-.4 as well as 1/4 mile drop least .5-.7.

Re: 2012 mustang gear change

I've been reading about this issue too as I am changing gears in about 10 days myself. What I've read is 3:73 if automatic, 4:10 if manual. 4:10 is going to hurt if you mainly drive the car on the freeway (gas mileage, etc). Also, if you add a supercharger or plan to, go with 3:73 now, not 4:10. Go with the Ford Racing 3:73 and Install Kit. If you add hp or put on drag tires (ie. Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag II's), you will want a stronger gear set than the cheaper made stuff. Just my opinion based on what I read. You will need a tuner to set the rear gears correctly in the computer. Assuming the gear ratio setting is unlocked, you set it as an option when downloading the tune. Check with AM or SCT at http://www.sctflash.com/products.php?PID=2&VID=726#3

4.10s? That's comparable to 4.56 on the older stangs, the new 5.0s
Gearing is more aggressive, 3.31 feels like 3.55, 3.55 felt like 3.73, id look into it more, I'm sure you can find that tool used somewhere for at most 100 bucks

So you have driven these cars with all of the listed gear combos? Back to back?

4.10's in a new manual are like 4.30's. Its a lot of gear cause way tranny is geared.

Auto is even worse cause way tranny is geared.

Wrong tire/gear combo and you do more good then harm.

Perfect gear manual 3.90 with 28" tall tire

Auto 3.31 with 28" tall tire. And you want a stall. That is best mod for an auto.

Yeah back to back man! Every single one! I've done hours and hours of track time verifying all of this! Not.

This^^^ a gear and pinion isn't all that affects the gearing.

No I'm not, read what wnt2gofst said. It's a known fact that what 4.10s did for the last gen mustang, 3.73s would do the same thing. Do some research before you make false accusations, maybe you can even add something intellectual.

You said 4.10's are comparable to 4.56's... Wrong. And going by feel, aka the butt dyno, is often inaccurate. I'm not saying you were wrong on all of it, but don't try to tell me that 4.56's are like 4.10's. They are not.

Haha, you're one of those guys that takes yourself and these forums wayyyyy too seriously.

Just have a little humility and admit when you're wrong instead of trying to be an Internet/forum hard@$$. No one will think less of you, trust me I've admitted being wrong plenty of times and I still have people asking me for advice.

Pretty sure u just threatened me. But I'm acting like a harrass? Right. I'm not wrong, my main point was that the gears feel a step more aggressive than they are (compared to the last gen). 4.10 feels more like 4.30, 4.30 more like 4.56

This is where I'm joking about what you said, you never said anything about inserting who's foot in who's mouth, so I jokingly turned back to you

You really feel threatened by that? by a joke? maybe you're more sensitive than I thought you were, most people on here are pretty cool and don't let these things bother them, I know I don't. it's an internet forum... who cares. you do not know me nor do I know you.

By the way I feel threatened by you telling me to insert foot in mouth

you are finally correct by the end... after you have been called out and told you were wrong... you FINALLY decide to fix your mistake and rectify what you said.

i have a 5.0 automatic and 3.73 ford racing gears and i feel like they are the perfect gear for a n/a automatic but you will deffinantly have to have at least drag radials and yes the stall is probably a good option for the track but will hurt you worst in drivability on the street(depending on how high you go) not to mention the is a huge price difference

---------- Post added at 04:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------

circle d stall: 1100$ plus install
Ford racing gears: 180$ plus install
overall probably close to a 1000$ difference after install
