Oil Issue...Not Again!

So after 3600+ miles, new suspension, a S/C, three sets of wheels and one scheduled oil change (due to 7 months) I had to add a quart of oil to the Pony.

I was at the dealer today talking to my Service Rep about it and he said folks have been asking about it, and that they have contacted Ford and Ford said it is normal for the 2011+ Mustangs to drink a quart of oil between oil changes. Just the messenger, don't shot me.

So word to the wise...check your dip stick often and make sure it's wet!!!!

how many miles on your car , are you a agressive driver ? . we used to have complaint's about oil use with MB's with easy drivers factory fix was to take car out & drive it HARD most of the time that fixed problem if it didn't we would hone block & replace the rings

I did my 1st oil change at 1,300 it burned 2qts from that point until I changed it again at 4,400 when I changed the oil again... up to right now I'm at 5,900 miles and the oil is right on the money... its most likely part of the break-in phase

So few questions
1. What type of oil and weight r u using
2. Did the gauge for oil life change at all?
3. When is the best time to check ur dipstick?
4. How hard do u drive your car?

1. I'm using the stock weight 5/20.
2. No (and I told that to the Service rep, it's all normal)
3. I usually check it before I pull it out of the garage and when I get back. Not every time, but probably once a week.
4. When I'm cruising around Stafford (VA) I might gun it a few times from the light; on the highway I just cruise at 70-80. I will routinely drop it to fourth to pass some idiot on the road.

I noticed the drop in oil after the S/C was put on, so you can see that I do drive it a little harder since then.

Yeah I am using 5w 30 and the users manual in mine says to use 5w 20. That's odd that yours say to go that heavy.

I was at the dealer yesterday talking with my Service Rep see first post. Asked what they use he said 5w20...I went to parts asked for the stock oil they are using when I get my Pony serviced he handed me 5w20. IDK...is it because of my location (i.e. weather in the area)?

So I averaged 23.5 mpg highway running 373s at 80mph 2250rpms. In town with me getting on it every once in awhile is about 17 mpg. So the reason ford originally used 5w 20 is because it was less resistant and maximized gas mileage. They have recommended that oil since the new edge era. Anyway something that was explained to me is that if you go through weather extremes very hot very cold it would be best to use a thicker oil during the summer like 10w 30 so the oil still stays on all the internal parts and doesn't just drip off because it is too thin. Then durng the winter time use a lighter oil because the oil will act thicker when it is colder so there are no worries of it being watery and it can get to the top of the engine quicker making sure all parts are quickly covered in oil. Now I live in western as where the climate stays above freezing and doesnt usually get hotter then 80 so I don't really concern myself with switching oil weights.

Mine didn't burn any oil on the first 1500 miles.

That's just weird.

Hey read up, it is indeed because of my track pak. Some people are saying if your not on the track you should use 5w20, but I'm gonna stick with what ford says
