Motor trend spy shots

Motor trend has an article about the 2015 mustang and some spy shots. Just saw it on the app.

On my phone and cannot currently post a link

Highlights a few things like possible IRS in some shots and some a-pillar gauges for boost maybe?

I agree, but look at how many threads have been popping up on "how do I get better gas mileage?" apparently there are enough people concerned about it. If they have to sell some boosted fours to meet CAFE standards and appease the masses, whatever. As long as I can still order a V8 I don't really care.

It does make me wonder if the S197 platform will be largely unchanged except for IRS and styling though.

Kinda, my feeling/hope is for a shorter platform. Either way chances are the mounting will be similar IMO

Yeah, I would be OK with that. I never realized how HUGE the S197s were until I spent a winter in my subcompact Mazda then got in my stang for the first time of the spring. My old DD/beater was a Jeep Grand Cherokee so the stang was smaller than it, now it feels like my stang is as much bigger than my DD as my Jeep was than my stang. I'm also amazed at how much bigger they are inside than the SN95s were. There is definitely room to lose.

Oh, and the trunk is ridiculously big. Who buys these things for trunk space? lol

Think of the weight and gas to be saved..
Then from a modding stand point think of the ET to be trimmed. Makes too much sense IMO..

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't care much about the gas savings, but I'm sure Ford does with the tightening CAFE standards. I'm all about lighter weight though, I'm out of cheap (meaning less than $1000) mods so weight savings is next on my list. Already did a BMR tubular K member, rear seat and spare tire delete coming up as well as tubular A arms (more for handling, but the weight savings is nice).

Eventually I will be ditching the heavy power leather for cloth racing seats. I would love to have Recaros, but can't justify the premium when Corbeaus look pretty damn good.

Re: Motor trend spy shots

ecoboost would be fine for the base model IMO but I would want no smaller than the V6

Like I said in the other thread, I'm all but sure the ecoboost will be an option engine on the base model only. I suspect you will have base Mustangs with the Cyclone, base Mustangs with an ecoboost option, and GTs with the Coyote.

I think they should keep the 8.8 as an option

Re: Motor trend spy shots

Assuming the 8.8 can be used as an IRS axle they would likely keep it. Where are my differential gurus? you can still use the same differential as Solid and IRS right?

I was referring to the solid axle as an option. If they plan on getting rid of it completely they could use the option method to phase it out

Re: Motor trend spy shots

O, gotcha. I think that the IRS should be an option. Solid axles cost less and more people would want those anyways... maybe make the IRS park of the track pack???

Re: Motor trend spy shots

its still archaic. that's like saying that we should go back to the pushrod motors because they are proven to last a long time and can make decent power.

We must be evolutionary and not be willing to stick with the things that just work! That's how we progress!

I agree with the Solid axle being GOOD, but it is not great and is reaching it's limits and is becoming obsolete. Not slamming you at all so don't take it that way.

I completely agree that the mustang should have irs, but there are people that are going to complain say it goes against the tradition of the mustang. Im for anything that willballow the mustang to kick some chevy and dodge ***

More people would rather have IRS then the solid. It's only the dragsters who might not like it as much. Is IRS really that bad for dragging though?

You mean the one that got annihilated by the ZL1 in every test that involved turning? The solid rear axle is great for drag racing, but inferior on the street and for every other type of competition driving. Even Ford has admitted that a very low percentage of GT500s see the drag strip, I would venture to say even less GTs see this kind of action, much less at the level of competition where NOT having a solid axle would hold them back.

Can't ford ask one of its European counterparts to design an irs that suits the track and strip.
