I stand corrected, I was only made aware that it lowers octane level.

Yes, by lowering the octane level the fuel burns at a lower temperature/pressure an therefore combusts prematurely which is what causes the detonation and detonation is what burns up the components in the cylinder.

You were not wrong, I guess maybe just didn't have the full understanding

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but the breather kit is pretty much the same thing as the PCV system. It's the breathing system to ventilate the pressure under the valve covers

Re: JLT Oil Separator

Is it worth it to install the breather system or just stick with the oil separator?

Re: JLT Oil Separator

I have only ONE JLT oil separator on my 2010 (driver's side). Do I need two or is one sufficient? One seems to catch what I think is enough...but how much is enough?

95% in my book would be enough, but I can't say for sure on the 2010 4.6's how bad it is

Having a 2010 gt with a Saleen blower, I have yet to get the one for the passenger side but I'm told from brenspeed that both would be better because the passenger side gets more then the driver side but I'm just waiting to buy mine for the passenger side.

10 days daily driven supercharged. Puddle of oil in the bottom of the separator already.

On the 3V you'll want it for the driver's side.

On the 5.0 you'll want it for the passenger's side.

Yes, both is best, but one is good and will get the majority of it.

I have the jlt oil separator on my 2010 gt with mild upgrades. I do have some smoke coming out the exhaust on start up and sometimes while driving. Talked to my local shop about it because the car still runs strong so it makes no since for it to be something major. He said check the outlet side to the oil separator ( the part going to the intake) and if its wet with oil then the separator is not catching all the oil. Sure enough it was caked with oil. I just cleaned it out or id show pics. I'm going to drive it this weekend and hope it fixed the issue. Hope that helps others.

How often do you empty it? The JLT has a very small container, so if it fills up, then it will start pushing oil out.

Edit: I'm personally not a fan of the JLT, but to be fair, any OCC that fills up will push oil.
