SCT Tune

I just bought a 2012 GT, love this car. I want to do a tune for even more power, but not if it will void my factory warranty. The salesmen at ford said I will be fine. Obviously I don't have much confidence in anything a caresalsem tells me. Can anybody shed some light on whether or not a tune will void my factory warranty?

If they can prove you tampered with the computer, they could most likely blame any engine problem on that. It's pretty easy for them to see if you altered with the vehicles tune. I love how everyone is so nervous about warranty... How often do you see an engine fail before 60k anyway? F it and just have fun with modding.

Well just about anybody here will tell you if you tune then your going to lose your warranty. Bama has a 36k mile warranty on the #8 cylinder. But I've heard their tunes are moderate. I've got a Sct tuner from them and the 93 race tune will wake up that 5.0 alittle. I mostly got it for the top speed limiter and tire calibrator.

Unless you know someone at a dealership in the service dept. may be hard to know for sure. I know that with SCT your stock tune will be saved on your programmer. Obviously if any service work needs to be done, you will want to put the stock tune back in it.

Ford can tell if youve tuned it no matter what even if you return it to stock. It's programmed into the ecu and can't be taking out. Unless someone knows something I don't.

Doesn't matter who you know, if the engine blows, the ECU goes to Ford Engineering and you're screwed. All tunes except the FRPP ProCal will absolutely void your engine warranty.

So, if I go with a ford racing runner then I'll be fine?

Sure ... just don't expect a lot out of it. Your money would probably be better spent on wheels/tires/suspension tbh.

Tires are a must! So many people want the big RWHP number and can't even put down the power they have. A friend ran his 01 bullet (bone stock) Friday. On street tires he ran a 14.9 at 98. He bolted on another guys NT555Rs and ran a 14.4 at 97. Took his 60ft from a 2.6 to a 2.1. To get a .5 second gain in 60ft through adding more power, you would be looking at close to adding 100 HP. That's going to cost A LOT more than a couple tires,

Don't waste your time if you're scared of warranty, just buy wheels, springs, and some axle backs and enjoy your car.

Warrenty, warrenty, always warrenty. Specifically, no car warrenty is fully voided, Only the part that the Tuner may have effected. Ex. if you add a Tuner and your Radio blows up, is the company going to denie you a radio replacement because you have a Tune on your car? Noooo. It would have nothing to do with a Tuner being on your car. If in your new car, water leaks into your Trunk and ruined your luggage, is the company gonna denie fixing your Trunk because you have a Tuner on your car? Nooooo.

That's why I specifically said "engine warranty."

I know ... tired of explaining it lol. We've covered it in how many threads now?

Also, make no mistake that if you roll into the dealership to have your leaky trunk fixed, they will inspect your car for mods and void the appropriate parts of the warranty if they are found, regardless of whether the issue is related to that part at that time.

Re: SCT Tune

Thanks for all the helpful responses. I'll probably stick with a cat back exhaust and a cold air intake so that I won't have any warranty issues. This car is already powerful......much better than my 2010 v6 mustang. What a difference!!!!!!

The only intakes that don't require a tune, are indeed a waste of money, stick with a k&n drop in filter that retains the stock airbox. Your wallet will thank you.

Re: SCT Tune

Thanks, realistically how much of a gain of horse power and torque Can I expect from a K&N air filter with an axle back exhaust and are those gains worth the money?

At best 5/5 not enough to really even ask for the gains. But we buy these things because exhaust sounds better and the K&N helps A LITTLE with breathing!!

It's pretty impossible to acquire any gains without a warranty void, aside from an frpp supercharger that the dealer would have to install
