Maybe detonation? Help!!

So I noticed that when my car is under heavy load I can hear a slight pinging, sounds like detonation to me. How do I fix it? Here's a couple of facts about the car. 2010 gt, runs regular gas, stock. Someone please help

How long has it been doing this? You could've just got some bad gas

Re: Maybe detonation? Help!!

Sell your car, quick and buy a 5.0!

If you have a little spark knock like you describe, try another brand of 87 or some higher octane fuel.

Detonation is rapid, uncontrolled combustion usually caused by a hot spot in the chamber. You have spontaneous ignition of fuel-air mix outside of the combustion hood. This causes competing pressure waves in the chamber and is really bad for the engine.

Yours reads like a little spark knock from too low octane fuel for the amount of spark advance being set. This is usually easily cured like I note above. alot of 87 fuel sold today isn't really 87, more like 85.

It just started after I got some cheap gas from north carolina on my way to Georgia. It was only 2.97 lol maybe I should put a tank of premium in?

That sounds like the issue. Even when my car was stock I didn't use nothing but 93

Sounds like bad gas. Go put some 93 in it. Then once you've burned the crap gas out try another good grade of 87.

I agree, Sounds like bad gas. I use 93 all the time only because I rather spend a bit more and not have carbon build up on the valves. I've taken heads of a car with 100k plus miles that ran only premium gas and cars that ran poor gas. The difference was observed. Premium gas keeps the intake ports much cleaner and much longer.
