Disappointment

I ordered my Saleen Powerflow hood yesterday and I call to see when I should be expecting it and they say in 3-4 months. You can only imagine how upset I was after saving for so long. I've searched everywhere and apparently Saleen has slowed or stopped production? Not a happy camper. I've searched everywhere I can think of for one and they are all saying the same thing. Any suggestions or help? Or should I go for a different hood?

Yeah those hoods are out of stock everywhere. If you like it that much then just stick with it. I can't find it anywhere so now it's pretty rare. If you wanna look for a different style look at the black mamba hood. You need the gt500 bumper for it but it comes as a kit around 3000 unpainted. If I can't find a power flow then I will going with the mamba conversion

Good news! I talked to the guy I ordered it through and he said the reason they're back ordered is because of the screen lining that goes inside of the scoop. Apparently Saleen is having trouble with the manufacturer for the lining so they're having to get it from another company. The guy said I could just wait for the screen lining and he would go ahead and send me the hood. So I guess that's better than my $1300 sitting there for three months? Haha I was looking at the conversion kit but I don't want my car to look like a cobra or a '13. I like it now so I would get the one without the conversion kit if I did. But it looks like this way will work out!

Yea plus Steve Saleen is back in charge, and sending the company in a different direction, if you haven't noticed already by their site.

I saw that. I'm definitely excited to get the hood and I don't really mind getting the screen later as long as they tell me how to install it. I think it is good he is back in charge though.

Re: Disappointment

I ordered mine in January, received it in late May. Despite the wait, I am very happy with it. Attached are a pic or two.

Grrrrrrrr. Yeah, I couldn't wait. A little fender bender had my ride in the shop and needed a replacement ASAP! I probably will sell this one and buy the power flow next year.

Are those the flush mount quarter window lovers from SHR?

Well the reason it's on back order is because of the screen so he said he was sending me one without one. I'll just have to put the screen on separately in a few months. I was in a fender bender too but mine is barely noticeable. It put an ever so slight kink in the hood that of course I couldn't stand!

What'd it cost to paint? Install yourself?

Re: Disappointment

I bought my hood off of Stage 3 Motorsports since they offered free shipping and 5% discount code for returning customers. So the hood was $1,234 including shipping and the guy at the body shop is charging me around $550 to paint and finish the top and bottom of the hood.

Yeah, I had to do the same. My hood looked a little rough from the manufacture.

Sorry about your fender bender.

Yes, those are SHR louvers. I had them painted and put on at the same time the hood was done. A little pricey (installation) but worth it in my opinion.

To answer others' questions . . . I paid list from Stage3. At the time I ordered, they were the only ones who showed the hood in stock. Turns out that wasn't true. They didn't have it either. They kept me reasonably informed though while we all waited.

I am skeptical of someone else's explanation of the delay being caused by the mesh grille insert delays. It could be true, but I kinda doubt it.

The condition of the hood when delivered was OK, not great. There was a fair amount of finishing work (smoothing) needed. Nothing major, but more than just "a little".

I spoke to both stage 3 and Saleen directly and they both said the reason they're on back order is because they're having trouble with the manufacturing over the screens. Mine came without one but it will come in a few months.

I love the saleen hood! By far my favorite aftermarket hood option. Why don't you just make your own screen?

I was thinking about doing that but then I thought about how DISAPPOINTED I would be if I wasn't happy with one I chose on my $1300 hood. Where would you even start to look for something like that?

That's very reasonable. Does that include install? And if you don't mind me asking what shop?

You have to make it. You can find screen material at places like home depot and then you will have to measure the opening in the hood and cut it. Then fasten it somehow. Just an idea but inner you could make a one pretty easy.

That includes install as well. I'm having a few other repairs done while its there but very reasonable for what he's doing. He also warranties everything he does. It's a place called pro tech collision in cumming that I just started going to. It's my first time there.

Just out of curiosity, what makes that a $1300 hood? Mine is a cervini's cobra r and it was less than $600 and there looks like no more work would be involved into that hood.

In large part due to the fact that it's Saleen/speedlab, I could only imagine the shipping on it. Also, most parts for the 11+ are still wayyyyyy more expensive than most any other model mustang

Shipping was free and it's mostly because of the brand name but it was 1200 for the oem hood and I couldn't get over the looks on this one so I just went with the power flow

Free shipping just means that it's included in the price really... They still had to pay to ship it to you lol. Sounds great but really they just raise the price to cover shipping, ALL companies do it

I've used pro-tech a couple of times. They do good work. I compared them to Maaco they came out $1,000 cheaper. And better paint.

You'll be happy they fixed my moms old car and my old car. They blended the paint perfectly on my Sebring to match.
