Different Tire Size and Traction Control/ ABS Issues

Hey everyone how is it going. I am having a problem with my 2011 Mustang GT ABS/ Traction Control System.

I recently upgraded my rear tires to 305/40 R18 these tires are about 3/4" taller then my front tires which are 255/40 R19

According to a tire size calculator online it says that my new tire is 2.2% slower then my original tire.

Now when i'm on the track my car is breaking randomly on its on. Even if i turn off traction control my car starts breaking on its own.

Last track event i had to unplug the ABS fuses to run the road course.

does anyone have any idea of whats going on?

Some people suggested my replacing the front tires so they are identical in height to the back.

will this fix my problem?

Thanks any help would be great.

Get it tuned. You can calibrate it for different tire sizes.

Re: Different Tire Size and Traction Control/ ABS Issues

I've talked to a couple of people and they all recommend me to find tires that will make the same height. you can put the 315's but you have to change the front tires accordingly to match the size.
use this calculator to find the right tire. Tire size calculator

i will put 275/45/ R18 in the front now to fix the problem.

Do you have both TC AND SC completely off??

To do this you must have the brake pedal pressed down and hold the TC/SC button down for 6 seconds

Re: Different Tire Size and Traction Control/ ABS Issues

First I would not want 18 and 19 mixed no matter the matching of heights and what not.If it was me I would get with my turner if you want to test with current set-up,but after that I would be going to the same size wheel all around. You can get wider for the back so you can have the tires in the back.Staggerred looks good, but get the 18 or 19 all around man.JMO P.S. I like 19 and they are staggered but 18 is more practical for tire selection and price of tires.I am happy with 19'' staggered set-up for DD for the most part but I want some Weld or Race Stars for playing and tracking.I could just get the 15's for the back and run 265 or 275 M/T drag radial for some fun.I would like to have some 17's for the front and skinnies on them, but that is alot of wishful thinking right now.Slicks and a track about October would be great too.....LOL!

When you switched your tires did they use a new tpsm? or did they, tune the tpsm to your car for those tires? Tire pressure sensor monitor (tpsm) probaly wrote IT wrong.

Yes. Hold brake pedal down while in gear. Then press hold TC button and, after about 7 seconds it so it will say advance trak off.

Hold it down. Pressing twice puts in sport mode. Which it will still be on.

Angry Re: Different Tire Size and Traction Control/ ABS Issues

Hey everyone. I have done some research and i've found out more info about my problem.

I am going to the track this saturday so i will fully test what was the real problem.

However i have found this:

There are actually 4 modes:

Traction Control On & AdvanceTrac On: Default
Traction Control Off & AdvanceTrac On: Single Button Press
Traction Control On & AdvanceTrac On: Sport Mode Double Button Press with Brakes
Traction Control Off & AdvanceTrac Off: Button Press 5 sec with Brakes.

I already ordered new rims and tires to try and fix the problem. However i dont think i needed to get the extra rims and tires.

I think deactivating fully the traction control is what will fix my problem.

Too bad i found out now that i've spend close to 1000 more bucks on rims and tires...

Anyways. i guess i'll have use for these rims and tires sooner or later.

But i think the real problem is the AdvanceTrac. This features restricts throttle and applies breaks when the car is cornering and its slipping.
