Question on installing Bama tune if previous tune already loaded on car

Hi all. Purchased a used 2011 GT that had some mods done by previous owner including Roush exhaust and C&L intake. Might be more mods but haven't gone through the car with a comb yet to see if any other goodies are there yet. I want to buy an SCT tuner with Bama tunes but am concerned what happens if the previous owner already had a tune loaded? Not sure they did but from reading about the C&L tune it looks like they say a tune is necessary with their intake so I am thinking there is a tune there. If I go to dealer to have them flash me back to stock what kind of cost would i be looking at?. I really don't want to have them flash it if there is any other way to overwrite a tune if one is there already (I think the issue will be that there is no stock tune to download when you first start the flash process. Any help?

Re: Question on installing Bama tune if previous tune already loaded on car

Been thru this and I know a whole lot about it. PM me and I will PM you my Phone number and can tell you alot about this. It's messy if you do not know who the previous owner was. Most dealers will not tell you because of confidentiality laws. Anyway, there is several ways to accomplish things. Depends on what you want exactly. So,like I said if you are serious and want to know more PM me.

Had the same issue my friend. Bought a used 2011 gt. I ordered a sct tuner from bama and when I got it, I found out I had an unknown tune or ecm calibration in the car. I was unable to use the tuner till a friend at ford reflashed my ECM back to the factory ford settings. I asked him if he knew what calibration it was as I was trying to figure out if it was a factory calibration or a tune from the previous owner. After that I was able to use the sct tuner and load the bama tunes. I'm curious though.... Pm me as well, so that we can get into contact and discuss this over the phone. I'm afraid you had the same tune as I did. If you did, I would like to know the production date of your mustang, and the file name of the calibration.

ljn21,

This is an on going debate, I will try & touch base with you as best as I can.

If the car does not have a tune, then your SCT will save the stock file & download your tune. Very simple process.

If the tune on your car(that we are not sure what it is) is from an SCT device, when you go to download your new tune, It will SAVE that file as your STOCK tune.

If the tune is from a different brand device(diablosport ect....), the device will mistake that diablo file for the stock file, save it as stock & then download your tune.(same process as with SCT)

^In that case, since you wont have a copy of your stock tune, the dealership can always flash it back to stock for you. I would recommend telling them you bought your mustang used and want it to be 100% stock and you think it has a tune.

I hope this helps clear up the confusion a bit, if you need further assistance or need us to clear it up for you over the phone. Re: Question on installing Bama tune if previous tune already loaded on car

Sorry everyone, kind of fell off the planet. Wife's grandpa passed away and he lives in Lithuania so we were over in Europe for the past 3 weeks. My deal fell through and I returned the GT to the dealer, it had a lot of problems that they didn't disclose and I got them to agree to take it back.

I am thinking I am going to pick up a GT500 on Saturday from a dealer that is willing to work with me and I will end up with a pretty good deal. Appreciate everyone's help in trying to figure out that tune question!
