plasti dip

Has anyone used plasti dip? I just found out about it and I don't want to spend the extra $$ for stuff and I want to simply black out my rims and a few other things. Any comments or experience would be appreciated!

Plasti dip works great, but I don't think I would use it on rims. They will get too hot and the coating would start to look like curdled milk. I would recommend going to a paint supply house and getting something that they recommend

I ran the dip for about 6 months here in Florida. Overall it worked great for the price. Did 3 coats and only had to touch up once. It held up really well. Honestly the only reason I got rid of the plasti dip was because I found a deal I couldn't pass up on powder coating my wheels gloss black with a red perimeter

Unless you're doing some serious braking the wheels don't get that hot. I Plasti-Dipped the wheels on my 240sx Drift car and heat hasn't been an issue but rock chips have. This stuff peels off realativily easy and I wouldn't suggest for long term use. As 2nd poster stated if you wanna do a good job that'll last pick up some quality supply's and do the job yourself and still save money.

Btw, if you still decide to use Plasti-Dip we've got tons of threads where people have done their wheels and what not. Check em out.

A lot of my friends have and it works well for the money but comes off easily when scratched or nicked. It could be a good or bad thing depending on if it's just temporary.

Thank you for all your responses and input! Do any of you know if it comes in a solid black? Like a metallic finish or gloss? Or does it only come in matte black?

I think it's only matte black. But you can get some dupla color clear coat in a spray can.

I clear coated my grille pony because it was getting dirty with bugs sticking to to it an junk.
Now it looks factors and it's EASY to clean

Go on to plastdips website. They have different colors, metallics, and glossifiers.
