Oil Life

So my car gave me the warning today that my oil only has 5% of its life left. But, since I put synthetic in it shouldn't last a little longer? So I guess the real question is, is the car programmed to assume that you're using regular oil and it just has the oil life sensor on a timer? Or does it actually measure the consistency of the oil?

Re: Oil Life

I use Castrol Edge 5w 30w in my V6, my Villager 3.0 I use Royal Purple 5w 30w. Syntec
oils last 5000 miles.

Re: Oil Life

for my 2012 there is no setting for how many miles you want it to go, yours may have it as my wife's 2011 Edge has a setting (3,5,10k) you set that and it uses that to tell you when.

I know for the V6 the interval is 10k miles under normal conditions for the new 3.7L. Synch does last longer, but ford puts basically a semi synth in it from the factory.

One of my relatives runs the service department at a major ford dealer and they recommend changing the oil every 5000 if you are using the motorcraft synthetic oils.

Gotcha, well then I should have another 1000 or so for it. I guess I just need to change the settings. But for next change, get Castrol synthetic?

There are no settings for oil mileage. The computer determines oil life values based on driver use.

Re: Oil Life

Oh boy....Oil thread! LOL!! No,if you are 5.0 and you drive it occassionally hard at redline or close redline shifts I would for sure not go over 5000.I personally recommend Mobil1 syn.! Can't say much for the 13 but if it's a 11-12 gt keep a close eye on your oil level the first 10,000.(Ring Flutter Break in)Be on very level ground when checking. Also know matter what 5.0 I highly recommend a JLT catch can.For sure the passenger side.Very few use on driver side.I don't.
