Guy at my work thinks there is 2 separate computers in the new mustangs and that's why they are faster than the Camaro ss. I know, makes no sense. I believe he is referring to the boss 302 that has 2 different keys that unlock a different program for the track and one for regular driving. He's a Chevy guy. Hasn't learned yet. Ha ha.

He just doesn't make sense. Says the displacement of the motor has nothing to do with it being faster, it's the computers that make them fast. Uh, I know the computers run the car, but the motor plays a part also. 5.0 quicker than a 6.2? Better believe it

There are many computers (ECU, PCM, ACM for example), but I'm pretty sure only the ECU controls the ignition.

Yup, pretty sure the ford engineers say that using the track key causes the ECM to recalibrate hundreds of parameters of the 1 ECM the car has, it doesn't use a different one

Re: 2012 Mustang gt have 2 computers for the ignition?

Dur....sounds like some of that Camaro's extra fat is in his head.

2 things: power/weight ratio: Advantage Mustang; 4 valve DOHC cylinder head v. wedge with PR: Advantage Mustang.

Computer tuning is essential for each engine but, it isn't ever going to make a wedge shape cylinder head flow like a 4 valve DOHC head, full stop. The massive displacement of the GM engine overcomes some of its somewhat old-fashioned design qualities. Big advantage of wedge heads over hemi or semi-hemi designs is wedge heads make massive torque, due to the way the flame front moves in the chamber.

There's one comp running the engine, right on the fenderwell. There's lots of other little computers in the car though, running various ancillary systems.

Re: 2012 Mustang gt have 2 computers for the ignition?

I am no expert, but reading around the 'net I've run across mention that for the Boss track key, basically there are two tune areas within the computer & the key accesses the more aggressive one. This sounds logical & reasonable to me. Still only one computer though.

Plus from what Boss owners report, the track key doesn't suddenly add 50 horse or something. The car is about the same straight-line fast on the regular setup. That is, of course, not really germaine to your discussion with your friend re. GT Mustangs in general anyway.
