safe HP numbers

What kind of HP can you 5.0 guys get out of a stock motor / trans? I know it's like 400-450 for the 04-09's.

---------- Post added at 12:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 AM ----------

Of course I mean supercharged or turbocharged. Cams, longtubes, full exhaust all that

Yup these coyotes will hold up to a lot, but it's ALL about the tune. If you can get that spot on you can go petty high. A good safe range is 6-650 though

That's awesome! Didn't even know the 2.3L head unit would support 16 lbs. who did the tuning? There's no way you're running those dinky 47# injectors. Did you go with a BAP? Bigger fuel lines? Sorry for all the questions, I'm super impressed and eventually plan on getting my own Roushcharger

This right here shows how superior the 5.0 are. same boost as the 13 gt500 and same size blower and almost 800hp and 700tq is insane

Motor is solid, trans - not so much. The autos are solid, but the manuals are inconsistent at best. I wouldn't plan on the mt82 holding much over stock power levels (some have failed at stock even).

Re: safe HP numbers

I'd say, as a member of the failed-stock club, if your MT-82 isn't whining loud or gearblocking you heavily, you're good to go but, remember the MT82 isn't rated for much beyond 700 lbs/ft at the Mustang's GVW. That and the fact that if you install a blower and try to come back to the dealer for warranty trans work, you can expect a pretty steep uphill climb.

The autos will need internal modification to take power levels like this, don't believe the hype.

Only part I don't trust at higher tq value is tq converter. Circle d=golden, if tuned right.

650 to the wheels is kind of my dream number. So basically if I could get a 5.0 for around 25k I could have it at 650 pretty safely with 10k-13k in mods still under 40k and be pretty damn close to gt500 proformance??

You'd probably need some bad *** tires and suspension upgrades to get any traction at all. And torque converter, cams, gears, n all that stuff

You don't need cams, gears or a converter. But even with a stock 5.0 you need better wheels and tires for traction.

Yeah, I'd like to know motor upgrades cause I'm going to be putting the 2.3L on soon and might as well upgrade internals to handle more HP. Got my brother-in-law's 2013 GT500 to smoke. His is in transit to dealer. I'll post pics of it when he gets it. It is bad a$$!

Even my 05 has trouble with traction and I can't be more than maybe 315HP. On stock tires.

I heard that 400 MAYBE 450 was safe on the 05-09's and that's with a very good tune.

That's somewhat true of the 11+ but definitely not 05-10

I would take anything from that forum as "hearsay" at best. 05-10 motor was good for about 450 then pop.

Re: safe HP numbers

The issue's not the block on the 4.6, it's the rotating assembly. The flying bits won't come close to handling 600 hp stock, 450, tops. That's part of what sucks about the 4.6. It just won't make real power without a full-out race build. Starting at about 300 is alot different than stating at about 400.

Safe hp #s for the 5.0? I'd say...412. Everything else involves risk. You will break something at some point at 650, much less anything higher, that I can guarantee you. Don't build it unless you can afford to break it.
