So, as promised...

Let me set the scene for you. It was just before dusk. Stepping out of my cold house and feeling the warm outside air hit my face. It was nice out. I decide to drive to work with the windows down.

I'm getting on the expressway, I've got the wind whipping about. I'm listening to the sound of my 5 liter accelerate as I merge with some light traffic. I need to get into the far left lane to merge onto the interstate but there are three cars in that lane moving much slower then I and I felt like I shouldn't have any trouble passing these guys on the right (Even though I'm a strong believer in NOT passing on the right... EVER!)

As I'm approaching the car in the rear, he swerves over across all three lanes of highway. I slam on my brakes and jerk to the right (Big mistake) and I feel the rear start to slide out, I've lost all control and am in for the ride. Nothing I did was helping to pull me away from disaster.

My mustang made a beeline for the guardrail...Click image for larger version

Damn man!!! I'm really sorry for your car. Glad you're ok but she isn't That sucks bad. The way people drive passing on the right or left can be bad. People are just a**holes and don't look around before changing lanes.

I wanna thank everybody for your kind words and support. I'm not gonna lie. These last few weeks have been hard. I never realized how attached I was to my car until this happened. It's gonna get fixed. I've already got the first insurance supplement and I've already started ordering parts. I got a pretty good body shop lined up and they owner is gonna help me track down everything I need.

I hit the wall doing about 50mph. The car climbed up the guardrail. I'm guessing the force of the impact caused the wheel to shatter.

Here's some more pics.

I'm sorry to hear that, but it seems as if people completely ignore sports cars on the road. I've had people move over on me and I've gone onto the shoulder and floored it and passed his stupid @$$. I have many, many more stories like that and I know one day I'm not going to be able to avoid one. It seems like old people tend to be the one to blame, no offense, but they just do unpredictable things because they are overly cautious or can't see. There are too many here in Richmond, the old people capital of America.

$5,334.45 is the amount of the first supplement. I imagine the body shop is going to find more damage once they get the car. I'll keep everybody posted on a repair thread that's gonna kick off the day that the body shop picks up my car.

Thanks. Someone's definitely looking after me. It really puts things into perspective when a typical day can turn into something you playback in your head over and over.

Events like this, that's what it is.. An event, steer lots of ppl away from sports cars and motorcycles..

Guy at work said his neighbor was victim of a home invasion.. Lady said the robber pulled the trigger on the gun 3x in her face.. Misfires..
Point being if it's not your time it's just not.. So be thankful but get back on your horse and ride bro!

I can't wait to get my car back on the road. I'm mostly pissed off at myself for not reacting like I've been trained to. I shoulda never swerved. The damage would be much less if I let him hit me vs. the guardrail.

Coulda, shoulda woulda, but you don't know what else could've happened if he hit you. Trust me, after my last accident, pre mustang, I did that to. But, everything happens for a reason man. Glad you are ok.

A couple weeks ago I watched a lady get tapped on the side by a tractor trailer and ended up turned around in a ditch, had fallen out of the back door because she wasn't buckled in and her face was inches away from being smashed between a tree and her tire. I thought I was just going for a cruise and getting some Sunoco and I saw the second scariest thing in my short 17 years. I have yet to stop replaying it in my head.

Dang primer, so sorry to hear about this! Like everyone, really glad your okay. I hope you get great deals and some awesome service work on your baby.

Look her over in depth before your claim is closed. Open up stuff, lift up carpet, open up your hood and inspect anything and everything. Many of my buds have found crap that was after the fact when they have had some bad luck with their rides. One had two header bolts that had weakened and finally broke 4 months after he got his ride back from the shop. Not to slam insurance companies, but they like to close claims fast. Keep us in the loop as you bring your ride back to whole.

Wow, that sucks. Good that you are ok, cars can be fixed.

Like Azure said, go over it with a fine-tooth comb. There's almost certainly more than meets the eye there. My wife has been hit a couple of times & the damage was always worse than just the obvious visible stuff.

Wow! At least you're okay. No airbags deployed? You can always find some used parts and just reliant them. That's always cheaper than brand new. But if insurance is covering it there's no point. .

I'd also like some more info on the wheel ... did it have direct contact with something?
