'13 tails on my '11 :D

Just finished getting all my lights painted and I decided to do the '13 style tails... I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out, but we're gonna make them darker. They look right when they're not lit but they're still too bright at night.

We put the skinny tape on the parts I want to remain unpainted, and then taped the reverse lights. Took the reverse light tape off halfway through, I wanted them black but still visible. Then we tried to make the rest of the light BLACK... But failed haha

I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow so I'll see what my sales guy thinks Maybe I can even get a picture of it next to a '13.

Daytime pictures to come.

Here they are in the daylight. We're going to darken and clear coat them tonight (if I get it back from the dealer by then!)

Thanks everyone! I actually haven't seen them lit up in the daylight because it was already dark when we finished. I'll get someone to step on the brakes when I pick it up. But we are going to darken them tonight hopefully.

Mandy4,

I love the idea, this is very cool & unique! I'm looking forward to seeing your car next to a 13' for comparison. We're actually in the process of manufacturing 13' taillights to go in 05+ cars, stay tuned!

If you can start manufacturing of different side mirror projector lights that would be awesome! I want something else besides a pony and the color of the light. I would help with ideas!!!

Well I got him back from the dealer but none of the '13s were really in a position where I could park next to them :/ And I wasn't going to ask if they could move one haha

We're working on darkening them now Also painting my trunk emblem.

Bowtiebeater,

We have been in the development stage's for a few months now. They should be all finished up & at our facility in the next few months! I'll definitely keep you posted when I have more information!

Merben50,

Great suggestion, we're tossing around the idea of a unique puddle light that I think you'll love! I appreciate the suggestion & I'll definitely get this over to my product development team & see what they think! Stay tuned.

Okay, here they are unlit during the day. Still haven't gotten someone to step on the brake. The unpainted parts look pretty dark during the day, you almost can't tell unless you look closely.

So tempted to trade mine in on a 13 but it would be for track apps and tail lights. Not worth it if IMHO. Its hard to trade in a lava red brembo edition. Very few painted. Almost hate driving the car.

Looking forward to seeing the lights

The final product! Well, still needs to be clear coated. Apparently you're supposed to wait on that.

The camera kind of ruins the effect by bleeding red... You really can't see any light come through the black parts, day or night. Reverse lights are still visible, we used a different paint for them.

Next project is painting the chrome GT letters body color

That looks really good! I may have missed it in a previous post (and if I did then just tell me) but how do the reverse lights look?

Btw I've seen someone else try to do this with the taillights before and it didn't look nearly as good as what you're doing

Thanks! The reverse lights look good, we painted them with the same paint as the third brake light and taped them when we really blacked it out. I'll get a picture for you.

Reverse lights... The color looks a little off in the picture but you can see how bright they are.
