2010 gt recommended upgrades?

I just purchases a 2010 GT about three months ago and I'm looking to do a few mods. I've had an x-pipe with mid range mounted magnaflow mag packs done and I'm thinking about bbk long tubes and a programmer. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I also live in a county where I do not have to go through Marta so the cats will be coming off also.

Hey "hoop1244", I'm glad I saw this thread, I have a lot of info for you, I have a 07 GT, same Engine. I also have/had a Magnaflow Exhaust, I originally had a Magnaflow "X" pipe on, but when I got BBK long tube Headers, I had to change the "X" pipe to a BBK "X" pipe to fit the Headers and car setup, so you will have to change "X" pipe also. I use a SCT tuner on my Mustang (Custom Tune), but use a Diablosport Pretitor Tuner on my wife's Camaro. I have some pics in my Garage, check out and ask me any other questions you have. I went with a Steeda High Flow CAI on Mustang and 410 Gears, Did "Airaid" on wife's car.

Hey Kato, I figured I was gonna have to switch the x-pipe lol always learn those things on the back end. I'm looking at the SCT tuner that I can have on my iPhone from American Muscle so sounds like I'm going about the same route as you. As for the CAI I hadn't thought about that because I know the 2010 came factory with the Bulitt CAI but it's never bad to let it breath better. Main question is would you wait to put everything on at once or just as I get the parts... My thinking is if I wait I'll notice a larger gain putting it all on at the same time and also have to deal with on tuning it one time. Another question I have is do you think the FRPP hot rod cams are worth the money?

Yeah I should have but i got a great deal on this one... It was to good to pass up. I am looking in about two years at buying a Shelby gt 500 or an rs3 roush for a weekend car, this one will just be a daily driver.

While i love my 5.0 ill wait for the 15s to come out and trade in possible or upgrade to a shelby at that time. Modding is additing.

I really wanted a 5.0 but I got the car for 16k and it's a little better on gas considering I drive about 100 miles everyday. I'm in the same boat as you I want to see what the 15's will be before I get another one. Yes it is addicting, I'm trying to not go nuts with this one and save my money for the Shelby or RS3

Re: 2010 gt recommended upgrades?

the 5.0 is better on the gas mileage front than the 4.6, trust me. Especially when tuned. Pretty much every tune adds 3-4 city mpg to the 5.0 and it'll easily crest to 30 on the open road. That's with 400+ horses.

I have always found every 4.6 I've had to use to be a bit of a pig, especially given its lower power level.

16k is tough to say no to, though, that's a hell of a car for very little money.

Re: 2010 gt recommended upgrades?

Um...we're closing on 6 bucks a US gallon for premium up here north of 49, kwicher*****in.

I love how oil goes down per barrel but we never see that, only a convenient excuse to jack prices when it goes up. Ours rolls up with the weekend, the summer months, whatever the oil guys feel we'll swallow and keep paying for. Apparently it's quite alot.

I'm going through a tank about every three days but premium is only 3.70 a gallon. But 11k miles in 3 months it starts to add up!

You guys always yelling "get a 5.0". That's not what he got. He got a great deal on a 10 like I did. Let him enjoy his car and mod it to his liking like I did. If he sans a 5.0 he will get one when he is ready. Your modding advice shouldn't be to buy another car lol. On another note, I'm also waiting to see what the 15's will be like but until then I'm enjoy the hell out of my '10

Re: 2010 gt recommended upgrades?

nobody's yelling....well, maybe tolly was. It just doesn't make sense to start modding a 4.6 anymore, unless you're going to go all the way and built a full-out motor. For mild street/strip applications, the 5.0's the sensible choice. best to take the money wasted on mods (b/c mod money is pretty much wasted money, no matter what car it is) and put it towards the better platform for supporting mods. You'll do less work and have a more relaxed and durable ride out of it, as you won't be pulling the tongue out so far. There's a reason people are shoving the coyote in everything right now and they never did that with the 4.6.

I understand. But what he has is a 4.6 and that's what he is working with. He is asking for modding advice on his 4.6, not on if we think he should have gotten the 5.0.

Re: 2010 gt recommended upgrades?

Here's the thing, he is getting advice on what to do with the 4.6: trade it, sell it, take the money and invest in the 5.0. It's not "you shoulda got a 5.0." There's a reason he's getting that advice and that's because shovelling money at a 4.6 just doesn't compute. Say you go gentle and just tune, CAI, exhaust the car, you're still 50-70 hp behind a stock 5.0 so, you have to go big on mods, just to get close. That's alot of money, alot of time, alot of risk, just to get close to something you can buy pre-made near to what you want. Nobody's saying, "Buy a Veyron" here, it's a Mustang GT, anybody with a 1/2 decent job can get this car.

Here's another option: Pull the 4.6 3v, sell it to somebody as an upgrade for their 2v and buy a Coyote crate motor. Hmmmm.....

Lol. Ok I give up lol. I don't think we are making the OP feel good about his great deal. Maybe he doesn't have the ash for the 5.0. Idk. And he probably should have posted this in a 4.6 thread. In any case I love ME cause u guys give great advice but I never think telling someone they should go into more debt for a more powerful car is good advice if that's not what they are asking. Its like u asking for advice and everyone telling u to trade your car in for a GT500 or something. Maybe I'm just crazy

Ok first I know a 5.0 was the way to go but 16k versus 30k and I own my car... As far as mods I just want some basic bolt ons, nothing to crazy. I don't plan on getting rid of the car because it's the only year they made this body style with a 4.6 so possible down the road it could be worth something, everyone knows how those rare years are. The car I sink money into will be the next one I get like a Shelby or roush. Just needing opinions on which parts people think are the best.
