Smokin'

Hi Guys, First time here, Last night I change my tune to the bama 93 race from the 91pro,with no traction control on I lined the car up and walked on it, there was a small chrip, off it went fast, yes. But it's a 2011,5.0, 4:10 rear, auto, steeda cai, boss 302 intake, mag comp catback,. nothing else but the tunes, everthing else is stock 19" tires, but should it just smoke those tires, my 4:10 6cyl ford ranger will. The engine was at idle. So what ya think

I have 2011 auto with similar mods... (but stock gear and IM).

It launches quick but doesn't just sit smokin the tires. (brake hold it of that's what you want or add a supercharger...).

Not sure I'd want that ineffective tire spin.

Your setup should be high 11s low 12s at the strip... For a car that is very comfortable, I don't see an issue!!!!

Re: Smokin'

Well I never get a chance to go to the track, cause of work etc, but once the car is above 2000 rpm its a rocket, I wonder if it has all the power the tunes say they provided,I'll have to go to the track see what it do

Re: Smokin'

This is not a 403 Oldsmobile. it's a high revving quad cam V8. It just plain doesn't and never will have absolute off-idle grunt like a 400 Pontiac. On the other hand, this thing will absolutely leave every stock musclecar V8 in the dust. Plus, it plants its power pretty well, compared to earlier pre-05 stick axle Mustangs that had the tendency, like you describe, to just boil tires.

I always say, this car doesn't feel fast but it is, alot of cars feel fast but aren't.

This thing pretty much lays it down, hard, straight and true. You'll find out if you take it to the strip. The only problem this car has stock is the upper control arm letting the rear axle hop too much. This is an easy fix with a Roush upper or similar. It's shocking what this car will deliver. My 3.73 BBP car on the road, with the Roush upper, will click off 0-60 in a touch over 4 seconds, again and again, very repeatable. High 12s is reachable at the track in stock form, especially if you contain the wheelhop.

Re: Smokin'

It's funny you mention the wheel hop - when "testing" my Steeda 93 Octane tune last night, I felt it - really badly.

The problem is you need a converter with a higher stall. The Boss bogs badly at low rpm launches.

Re: Smokin'

Exactly. My car is a 6MT, and unless I rev up the engine to a couple thousand rpm and then drop the clutch, I can't start to melt the rears ... if I start from a 'normal' launch and then mash the gas in 1st, I can't get the tires to start spinning like some other manual RWD cars I've owned in the past.

That's why I asked about whether the OP had thought about a stall converter.

And AMEN to upgrading the rear control arms (both upper and lower) to control the dreaded wheel hop!

Oh, and no way in hell are you going to see 11s without drag radials or slicks too.

AEL Mustang,

That does seem a little strange that you're only experiencing a "small chirp." Our 2011 GT auto used to break the tires loose way to easy or wheel hop, until we put upper/lower control arms on and an adjustable pan-hard bar.

I would like to get my lead Bama tuning Specialist, Mike Wilson, to take a look at your tune, just in case. There could have been a simple error on your tuning info form or something small on our part. Each tune is hand made and we do occasionally see minor human errors in the tunes.

Shoot me a PM with any previous order number of yours, so I can get your info over to Mike asap. It can't hurt to double check!

If there's anything else I can do, just give me a shout!

Shane
