Scary night

So tonight i took my stang out for the first time in a while. As we are waiting to be seated my buddy asks to go for a ride, i gladly fulfill his wish. After running her pretty hard for a mile and a half or so we turn around to head back. Wen the light turned green i decided to get on it one last time, i took it up to about 6500 rpms and shifted to 2nd wen i hit the gas, i didnt miss, i didnt grind, it went into gear fine and pop. All i hear is a burp from the exhaust. I went back into neutral quickly and thought i jus blew my tranny. All my other gears worked so i tried 2nd again n it worked fine. Any ideas? I drove at least 20 miles home with no issues.. Confused!

Sounds like you back fired, you said the car sat for a bit , so when you ran the car hard there was probably some hydrocarbon or unburned fuel flowing around in the exaust system and when you opened her up you created enough heat to ignite it , not really a problem just drive your car more LOL!!!!!

It was the air pressure surge when you smashed the gas pedal that helped ignite and push it through the system

Using a higher quality fuel with higher octane rating and synthetic oils helps reduce the hydrocarbon build up.

How long did the car sit before you drove it?

Im sure it scared the crap out of u! But I am with these guys and think its nothing. Take her out again tomorrow for a good spin just to verify, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
