2011 GT headlight install.

I just ordered OEM HID headlights. Super stoked for them to come in!! Has anyone installed headlights on the 11's if so is it a pain or should I just take it to the dealer and have them do it? Thanks for the advice!!

Re: 2011 GT headlight install.

It's got to be work, changing the housings took mea half hour putting in the raxiom projectors.

The wiring to the hids is a different plug. The "low beam" wire is always energized when on, the high beam is hot when on high for the shutters. There is a negative as well. I'd be curious as well, I think the raxioms look amazing but the out blows!!!

Make sure u buy a silicon to re seal all around the head light to keep the moister out, i had a bmw and install angel eyes headlight and had to do it because of the moister fog the inside when washed or when heavy rain.

Thanks guys! McQueen, what kind of silicon would u suggest? They are OEM wouldn't they be sealed already?
Jeffola, Did the whole install take a half hour? Was it a pain to realign the front fascia?

Re: 2011 GT headlight install.

Bumper off, light swap, bumper back on. Your wiring may vary

Something like this with a fine tip so you could seal it good and wouldnt make a mess.
It would make the headlights last longer.

Re: 2011 GT headlight install.

For some reason, I think McQueen thinks your cracking open the housings.

Your just doing a swap, I am thinking you dont need to re-seal them. Unless he sold them to you and knows something we dont.

Good luck!

I know that he is not taking the housing a part but from a personal experience that is what i would do, not all headlights are the same or maybe it was just me who had a bad experience but just to be safe and not have to re install it to fix a problem that is what i would do, it is just a little tip.
If you look at american muscle blackout 2012 car project in stage 3 video he is driving around and you can see fogging up in the right headlight, and those headlights are a good brand but still not perfectly sealed.
And no i am not selling him the headlights.

All of my research and scheming has finally paid off.

I cant believe that I haven't installed the housings yet!

Spent about an hour and a half in my garage and here is what I did.

1. Bought two Ford service Pigtails (WPT-925) $25 each on ebay

2. Bought a MotoControl HID harness and controller (The Retrofit Source)

3. Bought a pair of OEM HID lamp housings with Bulb and Ballast intact

4. Bought a H13 to H4 harness of ebay $15

The Moto Control harness has three wires going to each side, One ground, one High trigger and one positive ballast power
The attached wiring diagram is the PIN side of the ford plug, NOT the wire side. When your dealing with four wires, you need to figure this out before you blow stuff up)

5. Connect the wires (passenger side)
a. wires 1 and 3 to positive ballast power
b. wire 2 ground (the ground it to body ground above)
c. wire 4 to high trigger
d. Connect harness H13 to factory plug
e. Run positive wire to battery +

6. Connect wires (drivers side)
a. wires 1 and 3 to positive ballast power
b. wire 2 ground (Use H13 to H4 adapter Ground only)
c. wire 4 to high trigger

Powered up and tested, all is working. The harness is tied in and secured, all I need to do is pull the front bumper cover and replace the housings. But I did test them sitting on the motor and they worked flawlessly!

Please let me know if you need any assistance. This was a great project!

With the used housings the entire project cost me about $530 for Factory HID's (yes using aftermarket control) but still, close the hood, and you cannot tell!
